The guns I've used were held similarly to a rifle & pointed at clay pigeons or vermin. No wheels, no ships.

You're rather condescending & needlessly aggressive.
She usually is when she talks about things that aren't in her area of expertise and she only has has a limited exposure, until people who are experts in the area correct her, and then it's "well in my day......" or "oh well thats changed since........." etc. Happens often in most military threads and even some times in areas where she does have expertise, which was years out of date, but she still argued with a current rated pilot and told him he was wrong biggrin

I think she feels the need to be patronising because of some inferiority complex she has.

Maybe it's more than a complex?

Anyway, not the first time the police have shot themselves in the foot, one way or another.

Probably a Glock. No Safety as such and it's proving not that great an idea.
Just about all pistol manufacturers make versions without external safety. It's perfectly fine.

Yes there is the phenomenon called glock leg smile but it's usually idiots holstering their pistol with finger on trigger, and can happen with most makes or pulling trigger to release slide to clean without emptying the weapon.

Revolvers don't have safeties either, just a longer trigger pull.

We don't know if this was a pistol or rifle

I know many folks in SA who carry their guns in such a way as to be able to get a shot off as fast as possible. I always keep the safety on until the last second personally. In my shooting incidents, I've had the 'luxury' of time to prepare my handgun in the moment before firing but I totally get that you want to be quick to shoot when your car window is smashed in and a gun appears.
Me too - a guy I knew down in SA killed himself when his pistol fell onto the floor when he was doing some stuff around the house. Desperately sad.

This thread will not be complete until one of SP&L's disgruntled policemen comes on to moan that it's the result of police cuts, and is probably specifically the fault of Teresa May.

If they had enough money they'd buy super safe guns, or something.

hehe

Only to stop it firing if dropped on most striker fired pistols.

You pull the trigger it goes bang if loaded so don't pull the trigger.

As somebody mentioned above poor holsters or no holsters cause issues too.

Revolvers work the same so do most double action/single action pistols with a decocker like Sig,cz et etc hey just have a longer trigger pull so are a little safer but people still shoot themselves with those and still shoot themselves with 1911 etc style pistols with safeties.

Even if this guys weapon had a safety which it may have been a sub gun or rifle entering the house he may have disengaged it.

It's not something to worry about. At least it was pointed at the floor.

When I did a spot of infanteering I am sure my gun had a bipod.
Yup! You mean the General Purpose Machine-GUN? There are also plenty of smooth-bore shotGUNs in the UK. Didn't know you could only mount them on wheels or a ship, but that should make game season a LOT more interesting in the future...

G15 also forgot about tanks, but then again our ones still have rifled barrels too AFAIK, whereas the Danes used the smooth-bore GUNned Leopard 2 in Afghanistan, which allowed them to use Canister rounds...

Generally, Gun = smooth barrel. Rifle = Rifled barrel.
Yep, this lump of heavy metal.

Normally referred to as the 'jimpy' but sometimes as the 'gun' and the bloke who carried it was the 'gunner'.

Guys, she won't be back.

She's a argumentative smart arse patronising bh, until she's proven wrong, at which point she disappears as opposed to admitting a mistake.

I was shooting a gun recently. It wasn't attached to a ship, or a tank. It was hand held, and fired shot.

A shotgun, if you will.
She really shot herself in the foot there.

To be fair GG15G is normally on the money, and the reactions to her contributions are always amusing.

I like this one. Should have shot himself in the head less valuable stuff in there.

Ps he's using a 1911 pattern pistol which does have an external safety

TBH any time I've seen her username it's been overly aggressive, patronising and often wrong/out of date!

While I'm here, the 'ND = automatic £1,000 fine or Court Martial' bit is also total bks, even taking away that guns can accidentally fire due to failure of components etc, which other people have already rinsed her on.

As with any offence the range of punishment is entirely set by context and any mitigating/aggravating factors and so on. This is why Sgt Majs/WOs in all services spend a lot of time learning military law and how to conduct Orderly Rooms etc (IME).

G15's statement, if she was 'Made in Cranwell' suggests she's either never had to conduct an Orderly Room, didn't listen to her S/M/WO if she did, or was an OR who listened to other ORs too much when they were spouting bks.

Personally I'm on one of the first two options. The condescension factor is too high for a former OR - even a Crab Fat wink

They may have a trigger safety. The sticking out bit in the middle of the trigger needs so be flush with the rest of it to travel all the way back and fire.

Remember all the Dokic shenanigans?

It was fun, even though 'Mrs D' got on my tits.

Now 'amateur sleuthing' is banned and I have done none. Honest Guv.

However all with G15 'girl' may not be as it seems. All in my very humblest opinion.
