I can't decide whether flat earthers or the chemtrial lot are my favourite brand of nut job.
I suspect that particular Venn diagram has a significant overlap.Halmyre said:
What idiotic theories do atheists believe in then?

I love a good conspiracy theory but was speaking to a flat earthier today. Now just to point out, I'm not particularly outspoken and if someone has an opinion I'm usually interested in listening. Science only evolves when barriers are pushed and ideas are rejected.
However the lad I spoke to today really annoyed me, for a start he kept telling me it was obvious the earth was flat. When I asked him to explain a few things science related he just got his phone out and showed me some pictures any 14yr old tt could have knocked up on his dads Ipad.
I broached the subject of why. Why for hundreds of years would the governments of the world lie to us about the shape of the earth. Why would there be such mass secrecy, for a subject that would be hugely interesting to the majority of the worlds population, yet hold no real changes to the way we live. Again, the answer was "obvious". He suggested the world would go mental. Imagine the uproar. It would cause nuclear war. People would panic.
I asked if he would panic if the government announced that they had discovered the world was flat. Would he panic? Would he go mental? Would he climb into a bunker? Or would he go to work like he did this morning and chat about it with colleagues or friends, read the news, then carry on with his life. No, he said he would panic and go crazy. Which pretty much summed up my opinion of flat earthers. I've only met one, but I presume they are all boring pre madonnas in search of something to panic about.
The only other thing he said to confirm my thoughts was that he was heading to London soon to join some anonymous protest? Apparently it's huge and has happened over the last few years. I asked what the protest was about. He just replied "the government innit". Ah ok, that's interesting, what exactly is it about the current government you want to protest about. He literally had no idea. "Dunno, I need to research it more" he said. "Just protesting against the government".
This got my back up somewhat, considering he works for the local council, didn't vote in the last election and has never voted in his life (he's only 21). He has actually gone out of his way to travel to London, book accommodation, and participate in a protest he has no idea of the reasons for.
I suppose it's unfair to paint all flat earthers with the same brush, but I'll be avoiding contact with any others from today.

I was reading something about flat-earthers the other day. They are an interesting bunch, as while their creed is pretty much the uber-conspiracy theory, (on the whole) they don't believe in UFOs, ghosts, chemtrails, 911 was an inside job, etc, etc.
There you have it, the first solid bit of evidence to aid the credibility of all those other conspiraciesGassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
