If it's true that he was acting a fool then what a dick. I despair of my fellow countrymen sometimes. Typical of these days that he ran to the papers like a little entitled bh.

The UK media are pushing anti Arab propaganda rather than telling the full story. If you go abroad you should enjoy yourself but you can’t go into someone else’s country and act the and think you’ll get away with it.
Anti Arab propaganda my arse.
Tell that’s to the ladies that have been raped there and have been arrested for it.

I stand by my view that Holy oily countries are best avoided.

Was I the only one surprised to read this? I wouldn't have expected it to be a lucrative place to work.

Minded to agree. Terrible place full of the lowest of the low of ex-pats.

Who in their right mind would go to Rock Bottom?

Unfortuantly there is an arrogance from alot of people including the media that just becasue things are different over here it must be wrong or must be medievil.
Perhaps you should explain your theory to the poster above who stopped two women getting drug raped by men in the ladies toilet and ended up nearly being arrested himself for drinking and for outrageous behaviour for going into the ladies loo to stop it in the first place.

Tell him to stop being so arrogant. smile

Do you have the theme from 'hi-de-hi' playing while you type that?

It's a warzone, i'd expect it to be very lucrative. I can't imagine a massive queue of electricians lined up to go there to work.

It is best not to invite attention certainly. Dubai is very much a case of expats being left alone as long as we keep things below the radar.
Only if you get raped, you are no longer beneath the radar.

So you end up in jail.

This Australian woman was jailed for 8 months after being raped in Dubai. She is one of many - there are multiple instances of women being jailed or arrested after being raped in Dubai.

Like I said, I like countries like Iran a lot better. Iran doesn't pretend to be civilised and don't promote an image of being tourist friendly.

I suspect these latest news items dont exactly help the image, cant say I had any particular desire to visit but any curiosity has vanished now.

And I wonder how many rapes in Dubai go unreported, given there is a good chance the rape victim will be arrested or jailed if they do report it.

By no means was I stateing that’s acceptable from any view point whatsoever in the same way when bad st gets covered up here in this country - there will be knobheads everywhere in the world regardless of race, colour creed etc.

All I was saying that if a country has different rules and ways of living different to what we are use to - if we don’t like it then we should avoid it... I don’t think any country promotes and think it’s acceptable to get women drunk and rape them.. the fact that fk heads get away with it is a different matter altogether and more to do with certain person in power rather than the culture of living there...

1000s of expats get by everyday without getting into difficulties...

It is good money, especially if you work for a US contractor but as a Brit you have no chance.
There are Brit companies out there but the money is not as much as it used to be, but still tax free so you will be comfortable.

As for danger......its not. Yes there are rocket attacks but you wont go outside the wire and you tend to have a couple of thousand troops to protect you at each base.

They don't have difficulties, because they don't come to police attention. If you come to police attention because you get raped or you stop somebody from getting raped, then you go to jail.

Still. It isn’t all bad.

You can give your wife a kiss in public without the risk of being jailed.

And if she holds your hand - it is tolerated.

How wonderful!!!

I’ll give the place a miss.

Indeed. It really isn't that difficult.
