I don’t understand the US legal system, but from the American shows (the basis one needs to be informed...) isn’t it possible for the prosecution to claim, that he won’t get a fair trial given the media coverage?

From your post, you appear not to understand any legal system, let alone the US one! Why would the prosecution allege that the defendant cannot receive a fair trial? Answer: this would almost never happen. A free clue: the prosecutor is the one trying to put the defendant in the slammer.

Weinstein's defence team are arguing that Weinstein cannot obtain a fair trial because of media coverage. So far, the Judge is ruling against them. If Weinstein is convicted, inability to obtain a fair trial will be one of the points that the defence team pursue on appeal.

Note BTW that this is not a US case - it's a New York State case. A US case would be one in a Federal Court. Each State of the US has its own legal system and Courts. The Federal legal system and Courts are distinct from those of the individual States.

Haven't read the whole thread, so don't know if it's been mentioned that there is a book out about this case.

Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow.

Yep, not many people get to chalk up both a legal and a medical first.

Not paying huge attention to this but, my money is on him getting off.

Every report I skim through seems to suggest the women the prosecution are sticking on the stand have all had consensual sex with him at one point or another. Today’s case sounds like threesome gone wrong.

Am I missing something and should pay far more attention to what I’m reading.....or is he more scum bag than rapist?

Who cares. Justice is done. He courted celebrity and power. It’s gone. I personally don’t need to see him ‘do time’. He’s doing it and paying a huge price given his pre outing position and narcissism

Have you seen the TV program that interviews lots of actresses who had to deal with him?

My guess is he will do some time. But who knows with the USA, it's difficult to call.

Not sure where you've been for the last twenty years, but consent is a lot more complex than "she didn't scream and try to run away". It's pretty clear these days that psychological coercion ("sleep with me or I'll ruin your career") is equally as powerful as physical force.

But is it a crime? He is clearly an odious man but from the first witness whose testimony was taken apart, it appeared she was a wiling participant who went back for more.

He has no morals but if his defence carries on creating doubt in the mind of the jurors then he will probably walk.

It has shown that many people in Hollywood are rotten, those who do what he has, making false promises or offering parts for sex and those willing to do anything for fame.

Oh I get that. But there seems a pattern of those coerced people returning for consensual sex after the criminal offence is claimed to have taken place. Irrespective of right and wrong, I wonder how that will play with a jury.

His trial relates to only a couple of women? So all the stories of him being a sleazy scum bag with others seem irrelevant in the context of whether he gets off?

They really won’t.

Guilty of rape and sexual assault. How long do we think he will get?

Here’s what he faces:

“Sentencing guidelines for those charges:

Probation to four years in prison for rape in the third degree.

At least five years in prison for criminal sexual act in the first degree“

Fast moving I guess, apologies, you tend to assume accounts are accurate if it looks like they're in the courtroom.

Another trial yet isn't there?

Edit. Held in custody before sentencing.

Still, on the bright side, he can look forward to an Oscar for his acting with that zimmer frame.
