'everybody deserves a second chance' he uttered today, 'and I am seeking help' . No apology to those that he, alledgedly, sexually abused.

It's gone on since, forever, and probably before the motion picture industry existed.

There was a documentary on a few weeks back about Natalie Wood. In it it was mentioned that when she was about 15, or so, she was very violently beaten, probably drugged and repeatedly raped in a hotel suite by an extremely well known actor and producer who is still alive. It was suggested that even her mother was complicit in it after the fact. These were allegations made by her sister who says she'll reveal who it was when he dies.

It is apparently a fairly open secret and even the way in which the documentary was edited gave a pretty good clue as to who the guy was.
Not sure who it was but apparently, other guests heard cries of "I'm Sparticus" from the room!!??

Sadly, I have long assumed there was a "casting couch" element to getting in a film run by some of the major Hollywood producers.
Hollywood has always been thus, Marilyn Monroe talked about it in the 60's. He is far from the only one, most of Hollywood are breathing a huge sign of relief thinking thank god its not me, hell even Terry Crews that 6ft + ex footballer tweeted how some Hollywood executive grabbed his junk at a party.

As Joe Rogan said on his podcast all we are hearing about is the strike outs, where he was unsuccessful

Ultimately nothing will happen to him and nothing will change, he is rich and powerful

One presumes this isn't such a problem in the industry for the male talent....

Call me a cynic but, rape allegations aside, I assumed this was how Holywood worked anyway.

I think you might be wide of the mark there.

Men are just as susceptible and I'd be astonished if it weren't rife.

Hmm. Lot of folks on here would've touched their toes for a part in The Last Jedi...

Some women would have been terrorised and permanently damaged from his horrendous actions and cried out....... but I can't help but think that some of his victims willingly went along with his behaviour in order to further their own careers. Which means, does it still constitute abuse?
It does NOW of course, when this pervert has been rightly, publicly thrown under a bus, but was it abuse then.....? and if it was, why did they all stay silent and let others get abused after them?

The guy is disgusting no doubt and deserves to be locked up, but there's a LOAD of hypocrisy from all the players in this game... it's a nasty sordid industry with people that will do ANYTHING further their own interests.

Erm, yes, it is abuse. You shouldn't be forced into having sexual encounters with someone in order to get a job, no matter how "good" the job is afterwards.

wait ... what ?

Are you suggesting that all film execs, director and producers sleep with the talent ?

Please don't be absurd.

Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood etc..

There are affairs, mistakes, on location romances for sure. But this is abuse we are talking about.
'All' is pretty strong I agree. But it's been an open secret for decades so don't pretend that it's not widespread.

What will be interesting will be to see how far this goes to get the industry to clean itself up - or whether they just hang Weinstein out to dry and then close ranks again.

I am not being naive, yes this has been going on forever, from mill bosses and gentry raping the workers to hollywood. It was the use of the term "all" that made me respond in this way. There is a fine and quite blurry line between actors having to go for lunches, dinners and be seen on the arm of Execs, and possible aspiring actors willing to trade sexual favours for parts in films.

But then there is abuse. Weinstein used lawyers/hush money and his extensive power in the industry to silence his victims.

Smiler.

McGowan has had her Twitter account suspended after telling Ben Affleck to "fk off" and accusing him of lying about his knowledge of Weinstein’s actions.

Ben Affleck has fondled women live on air and on red carpets, although his brother Casey was worse by settling out of court with two behind the scenes workers accusing him of sexual harassment. I think it's fair to say they all knew about it, know about more than has been reported and they are all hypocrites.

Could we ask Kim Jong Un to target Hollywood only?

Rape and assault aside, I think it depends. Is a $10,000 a night hooker being abused? Is an actress that fvcks the right people for a $100m career?

he lives in a bad place to have this kind of thing associated, I guess he'll either move or try and get the public to believe he's a changed man
