No thread on the delightful Mr O'Mara?

I was pretty shocked reading about his misogyny and homophobia yesterday until I saw a photo, some people you can just tell...

Apparently he now thinks he doesn't have to resign because he's with Labour, and therefore in an environment in which he can show he's changed laugh Well I guess it worked for Keith Vaz rolleyes

ETA what's his PH username, £5 to charity says he's on here.

I'm pretty shocked that you think that someone's views or beliefs can somehow be evidenced by their appearance.

I'm pretty shocked that he has to resign based on comments he made when he was 15. We've all been 15 and I probably said some rather unpleasant things when I was 15.

Someone went digging for dirt because they could. They found it, because everything is online these days. But it isn't right.

He wasn't 15 he was 26. Probably should have been a bit wiser by then.

I) this isn't just ancient stuff - Guido is gunning for him for stuff earlier this year

https://order-order.com/people/jared-omara/

2) get real - this is politics. If it's there as Damien Mcbride noted, it will get found out: it's almost the entire point of the press

3) as the journos on newsnight noted last night, if he was sensible he would be anticipating this stuff before Guido posts. He's not, and I suspect there is a lot more to come out. He was flagged before the election as a likely liability.

IMO he's toast and deservedly so.

I'm sure PH will be equally as harsh on the actions of Chris Heaton-Harris. He wants the names of anyone who questions the true faith.

...and then there's the comment he made just 8 months ago.

Setting aside personal political affiliations, it's entirely resonable to expect anyone holding themselves out to be a paragon of moral virtue to be whiter than white. The rest of us have an excuse.

It would not matter to me which side of the political spectrum he was on, I just feel a warm glow when those in public life have their rank hypocrisy exposed

If he does jump or get pushed, Nick Clegg might want his seat back. Talk about a no win situation.

Quite - especially as he saw fit to take a seat on the Women and Equalities Select Committee. Robert Mugabe eat yer heart out.

My mistake, wherever it was I read this, did not mention the bit about him being 26, just the bits from when he was 15.

My point stands if he was 15, but if he was 26 and beyond, then yes, should know better.

Just one of the many many reasons I am not seeking a role in politics because I'm not whiter-than-white, but nor am I as dirty as is needed...

..and if he was saying those sort of things at 16 and is still saying them at 26 then they are obviously ingrained prejudices that he is not going to grow out of.

However he says he's 'on a journey' and is now educated and, furthermore, Owen Jones has pronounced in the Guardian that he can become a shining beacon as a reformed individual and show others the error of their ways.

I can just imagine Owen affording a Tory the same 'second chance', especially after his vile comments on homosexual men

I always assumed that Politics wasn't a suitable career choice if you have skeletons in yer closet.

No, as someone who recently stood in a local election against a friend of mine did, if you have skeletons, try and make it look like the other person has something worse...

although that did backfire

I don't have any skeletons in my closet, but the scrutiny over every single thing I have ever written on Facebook/Twitter/PH etc would get, and worse, if someone decrypted my WhatsApp or similar, would be given, does not bear thinking about. Sure, I can defend it all, but that won't matter to anyone who has a political stance against my own.

He's 35 now so he was 20.

Lots of folk say daft things in their 20s, it's just Twitter wasn't around when all the old farts (like me) where the same age.

People say daft things and people make mistakes.

He does seem to have said and done lots though.

What I find strange is that there appears to be more fuss and made and "condemning" around what Clive Lewis said than there appears to have been on this - and I know which I'd say is the most offensive.

A bit like Harvey Weinstein completing his 'sex addiction' rehab in a week eh?
