New cash cow junction in London
Discussion
Apparently it looks pretty normal junction except some discrete buses and bikes only 7am- 7pm signs
All in the name of road safety - close it and it'll be safe - they could try that everywhere
The buses and cycles only part allows cameras to be used for auto enforcement

Closed roads and poor signage have traffic queuing all round cities making unnecessarily long journeys. Those that make a mistake get hit in the wallet. We're told it's to ease congestion.
As more cameras for bus lanes, average speed and all the rest of it go up where I live, more and more people mysteriously lose their numberplates. With no actual police around, who's going to enforce the lack of them?

Walk through here every day going to work. The signs are so incredibly obvious, with warnings up prior to the pilot starting as well. It was well publicised too. No excuse for anyone flouting it, it's clear as day, and there are plenty of other routes that can be taken without going through Bank.

Cash cow my ass. It's a tax on stupidity and blindness. I work in the area and those who were caught out should be forced to retake their tests since they are either too stupid to drive or found their licences in a council provided pack of Kelloggs.
As far as I know they havent made stupidity, a punishable offence - yetIf it was backed up by camera enforcement it could be quite a money earner
ETA who would be first in line, the people inventing the signage or the ones getting it wrong

I walk through this junction on the way to work as well. I agree the signs are clear. However, I don't agree with this move. I believe that there were a couple of cycling related deaths at this junction over the past couple of years. However, all that this move has done is to push the traffic onto the side roads, which are now more dangerous than before (watch the pedestrians trying to cross the side roads heading towards Liverpool Street station). There is no "diversion" signage at all - in other words, you see the no-entry sign, you turn onto the nearest side road because that's all you can do, and then...no signs to guide you further, you're on your own (and bear in mind that many roads in the Square Mile are one-way or restricted in some way, so unless you know the roads, you can get trapped quickly). And they've removed a zebra crossing so IMHO it's less safe for pedestrians than before.I think this is a classic case of the Mayor wanting to be seen to be "doing something".

anyone that thinks allowing local politicians to decide which publicly funded roads the public can use in their cars needs to have a word with themselves, imo of course.Cars are already banned on most of Oxford Street between 07:00 and 19:00 every day apart from Sunday.
Oxford Street will be fully pedestrianised by 2020, the mayor of London's office has said.
All traffic including buses and taxis will be banned from the shopping street - one of the most famous in the world - as part of Sadiq Khan's plans to tackle air pollution.

Haven't seen how this junction is done but if you're driving with other road users obstructing its far less easy to observe non-essential seeming restrictions than if you're ambling along the pavement, the LA tend to set these things up to snare people rather than make it blatantly obvious or impossible too.Mind I pay more attention to waze than the road these days for precisely this reason, which obviously makes me a much better driver.

You're not suggesting the Daily Mail are being economical with the truth, are you? Say it ain't so! The sky is falling in!Who in their right mind drives through the City, M-F 7-7, anyway - unless they're doing local deliveries?

If the perspective of someone who walks past a junction every day isn't the standard we should be aiming for then I just don't know what is.TooMany2cvs said:

Bizarre statement. Who else other than the local council would decide?Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
