When you say 4.5 i take it you mean a 4.6ltr as in a 450 chim.

You will need crank rods and pistons as they are all different. Bores are the same as far as im aware.

Depends, is it a true 4.0 serpentine block (X bolted) or an interim serp block ?

I read somewhere you can (should) reuse the 4ltr pistons with the 4.6 crank and rods to get slightly more compression and hence a few more horses... Would appreciate if someone would confirm this.

If you want to up the CR yes, personally I would and get the valve reliefs cut too if you want to run naughty cam profiles, get the whole lot balanced too

Before I had my 4.6 rebuilt by Powers Dom mentioned the 4.0 pistons with cut outs could be used to up the compression thumbup

Depends where you are going after that.

Staying normally arspirated, then fine, up the compression ratio.
Going turbo, then you will want a nice low compression ratio.

Just saying (and ducking at the same time - told the Mrs I could multi-task!).

She then said doing two things at once was nothing - she could do three things at once.....clap
I pointed out that that was true, so long as two of them weren't map reading and parking whistle

The kennel is remarkably warm for the time of year.....getmecoat

^^^^ hehe
But 4.6 with a bit of comp is a really enjoyable engine N/A as it does sound angry yet still really smooth.
Mine had heads skimmed and block decked so if anything nearer to 4.5 anyway
I reckon with big ported heads and inlet manifold with some bigger trumpets de Cat it could be as much as 325 Bhp or higher. It already has what would be considered high torque figures on a 5.0 let alone a 4.6 at around 340 so it shows the potential in these engines without needing to introduce Turbos. wink
Ok head work is costly but once it’s done that’s it.
Turbos must be harder to live with and more to go wrong with my simple way of thinking. wink

We'll get you over to the dark side one day my lad, once you've forgotten all about Fred Dibnah... hehe
4.0 + T = 481..... getmecoat
