Licence in the shredder for this chap...

A driver has been caught doing 136mph on the M60 in Greater Manchester.
Police filmed the driver doing the speed at junction 24 (Denton Island) just after 22:00 GMT on Sunday.
Greater Manchester Police tweeted: "136mph & not checking its the dibble behind."
The driver has been reported for summons, it added.

That's a nudge and a half though.

Hopefully said with tongue firmly in cheek.

epic PH quote...

I would also consider double the speed limit would be 'nudging'

You finally get onto the M6 Toll after being stuck in traffic for the last 45 minutes?

136? Understandable IMO...

Meh, I mean we all know it was most likely safe, no one was hurt, etc.

But unfortunately the laws are there and if you break them you pay the consequences.

Can't work out what car that is. I would have to admit I have done similar, but if I had a car travelling at the same speed I would immediately being slow down. Not only because of it likely to be a police car, but I wouldn't want someone believing they are in some kind of race.

Being a bit pedantic but you can apply the "no one was hurt" rule to pretty much any driving offence, no matter how heinous. Driving leathered but managed to get home with no incident? Welp no one was hurt on this occasion so no harm no foul.

I'd argue that the people that he was sharing the motorway with are unprepared for someone who might approach them at a speed differential of 70mph or more.

Safe until you have a blow out and your car is catapulted through some ones house...

Surely they as a country are free to set the compromise at what they are happy with (that changes with the passage of time, as not all autobahn are limit free) & we as a country are free to set it at a compromise that we are happy with.

Quite, on their much better roads. Despite this, more of them die on their roads so I'm not sure we should look at Germany for our road safety strategy.

Yeah, but how many people do you think are happy with the fixed 70mph speed limit in this country? I for one would like to see a limit of 100mph when it is late/early and the motorway is clear. Of course you'd still have to drive to the conditions, and you'd have to decide if/when it is sensible to actually do 100mph.

So you pluck a number out of the air that suits you, but that won't necessarily suit others.
The tenet of our democracy is that we vote representatives into government empowering them to make decisions about such things on our behalf & for them to find a compromise between many competing factors/interest groups (which is no easy task)
Personally I can't see them choosing 100mph anytime soon with that in mind.
Incidentally I've said before that I'm all for no limit to apply to me anywhere at anytime (motorway, rural or urban), but at the same time I accept that there are many others who wouldn't like that to be the case for me & for good reason. Also that small changes at the peripheries such as upping the motorway limit to 80 aren't going to make any real world difference to me.

They download footage from the vehicle to usb drive and then on to a stand-alone computer with no outside access. Or they did on the one I saw. I would guess it’s to ensure security of the footage and usb wiped once it’s downloaded to the computer.

I would imagine that if the computer ain’t broke then they won’t fix it hence it running dos or windows 98 smile
