Actually it is FACTUALLY correct that leaving the EU would create a saving of £200 million a week. These figures have been checked and double checked by numerous sources.

I am unclear how UKIP came up with the £350 million.
Was it UKIP?

UKIP were the ones who got the whole ball rolling so far as I am aware with the bus banner with £350 million a week on it.

I think you may be wrong but TBH does it really matter who said it 18months ago..there are lots of things said on all sides but tit for tat arguments won't change the result IMO.

It wasn't UKIP, it was the official vote leave group, UKIP was not part of this group.

The number changes every year. It was going to be a lot more than that had we remained members as the EU expands it's competencies and territory further and starts to expand its retirement payouts as the EU civil servants pass through the system.

The number used was the gross figure for 2016 based on the GBP-Euro exchange rate used for payment. You never know what you will pay, because it varies with exchange rate, what your GNI is, what import taxes you charge and what VAT you collect.

That's bold to claim £200M is factually correct, particularly if you aren't going to link to the sources. The sources could have been Yipper and mx5nut silly for all we know.

The treasury came up with a net figure of £8.6 billion for 2016 after taking CAP payments and other rebates into account. That's just over £165 Million a week.

I found various sources at the lead up to brexit and also worked out the numbers myself and it came to £200million which was around where everyone else (sensible) saw the number.

Just because the treasury made a claim is not overly relevant they are civil service and as such I consider them incompetent so they get lumped in with all claims.

Are you referring to the same Treasury that forecast 4 quarters of recession as an immediate impact of a vote to Leave the EU in the referendum of the 23rd June 2016?

No i prefer my figures and those from independent sources rather than yet another government department tasked with smudging the details to make brexit look bad.

Worthy of discussion?

What period does your £200M figure cover ? Are you able to share the various sources or the data you used to 'calculate' the £200M?

Just saying everyone else sensible saw the number being £200M has zero credibility unless you can back it up with some evidence.

There is no doubt that the net figure the UK gives the EU every week is an obscene amount but Inventing a £200M per week figure and calling it fact just helps fuel ORD's, and other remainers', ingrained prejudices about all leavers.

The government full of Brexiteers? The government elected on a mandate of delivering Brexit?

That government?

Calm down. Is 'plaque' of locusts supposed to be very scary?

Seems that most leave voters were so scared of Turkey joining EU and them muslims coming over 'ere and living next to honest, God-fearing folk, that they didn't pay attention to anything else.

For details, check Cummings et al.
