Wrong to speculate but I get the feeling the car with all its occupants ejected is the one that caused this.

Mail pictures show two bodies on inside lane of east bound (?) carriageway, how did they get there?

And debris on that side as well...

I'm struggling to plot the movements, looks horrible.

It’s impossible to say what happened from the positioning of the cars, a crash like that completely rearranges everything so a car can end up on the wrong carriageway facing the wrong way added to which one of them was from a previous accident that hasn’t beeen moved

Looking at the pictures, I think the black hatchback (Golf?)
It’s an 8P S3 by the look of it.

Obviously by the markings a vehicle has crossed the carriageway. The Audi has massive rear end damage so my bet it is: massive speed, unsighted over crest curve, slower traffic in front, ran of talent, crossed the central reservation, went in backwards to the Taxi & Silver car.

I put money on the Audi being:

Stolen
Drugs related
Illegal activity
Dangerous driving involved prior
Massive speed prior
No Seatbelts
Uninsured
Trackys

Tick all or some of the above

RIP to the innocents

Young lads and fast cars whatever the demographic never ends well, can’t see why you wouldn’t wear a seat belt though

I'm struggling to see how 4 were ejected from the S3, windscreen is smashed but in place, hasn't rolled and O/S door glass is intact too. All out of N/S?

It does look as if S3 has crossed reservation and collided with Taxi/Silver vehicle and the Zafira has rear ended the Leon after coming across the accident.

I am rarely in Birmingham but was for work mid last week and decided to walk to my destination 3 miles across town get some exercise. Saw numerous fast hatches & big engined saloons really booting it around town, very obvious look at me in my expensive fast car behaviour, it appeared to be a problem ignored - say that as so blatantly done by so many it seemed to be normal.

Might be the case too that there were other vehicles involved that left the scene before the emergency services turned up.

For example, there is a post on the 'They Stole My Wheels' page on Facebook this morning showing a silver Audi A3 abandoned during the night in a housing estate in Birmingham, the front end of the A3 is smashed in.

Probably completely unrelated but maybe not?

God that is a horrendous incident, cant imagine being the first on the scene at that and having to deal with it.

What is going on with Fast Audi, they are great cars but seem to be present so often when there is death and carnage, sounds like some have mentioned it was stolen and being driven erratically at high speed and the other two cars were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Does seem to be a thing, was at the gym last night and crossed the access road an some chimp in an S3 booted it down the access road as I was crossing then went into the car park at speed, quite a leap of faith as it is unsighted.

I'd agree with the speculation that I think the Audi came around the bend in the outside lane very fast, found the Seat and Zafira going much more slowly, swerved to the left, back across to the right clipping the Seat, crossed over head-on into the taxi and pushed it into the silver car (what even is it?!) and into the wall.

The occupants of the silver car are incredibly lucky!

pretty much have to agree, but maybe the S3 was sideways and the first contact was a T bone with the unrecognisable, rolling up the front and screen and then down onto the taxi

All the supposition about wet roads, speed etc, are just that, the truth is, this is sadly more likely someone "driving like a / boozed up" scenario.

I worked in Bham for years, and drove that section many many times, it's not that hard, it's not challenging at all, so I suspect someone had been a tt for this to happen.
I feel sorry for everyone involved, particularly the innocent victims, whomever they may be.

Silver car I'm fairly sure is a 2nd gen yaris. If I were to guess black audi went over the central reservation into the yaris and/or the taxi. SEAT and audi could possibly be racing as they're the sort of car that seems to be driven by young men who drive like loons. Damage to taxi doesn't look that bad compared to others, but ppl don't wear seatbelts in taxis for some reason.

If it was freezing as hard as it was here in Birmingham last night I would throw black ice into the cause list?

Initial photos look like the black Audi S3 has gone across the central reservation and hit the small silver car and the taxi. Although that wouldn’t explain the frontal damage to the Seat Leon and Vauxhall Zafira.
That would be my take on it, possibly racing or showing off. Often seen in Birmingham area, high performance German cars being driven fast/badly

What’s the speed limit in that underpass?
I can see a 40 sign on the slip road.

If that carnage is the result of a 40 mph head on, that is really a sobering thought.

Condolences to those involved, and a big thank you to the emergency services, that’s not an easy nights work.
I was the car immediately behind a 40mph head on 2 weeks ago and yes the extent was the same

I also don’t get this ‘coming towards me’ thing it would last seconds so needs explaining better
I use that underpass at least a couple of times a week. It's 40 but due to the incline people regularly do 50-60 through it without even trying, in rush hour traffic. At 1 am who knows what speed that could be taken at.

Considering the damage to the Yaris, whoever was in it has been extremely lucky to walk away from this accident.

I wonder if the non wearing of seatbelts of those ejected from the S3, was due to the occupants wanting to make a quick getaway if caught in the stolen ride?

Just a thought that crossed my mind. No evidence to prove it was stolen.
