I'm watching the new Spam building going up in London and i've noticed that they have started to paint the floors.
Around the edge there is a red paint, and the rest is being painted yellow.

Can anyone tell me why they are doing this?
My Google-fu is not returning anything.

Likely there will be a raised floor to go above that floor you can see now, and the different coloured paints might represent the different zones that cabling is allowed to be laid in, under that raised floor?

The red could be the landlord's demise and tenants have to keep their underfloor installations in the yellow areas?

Or something to do with firebreaks and what level of protection the tenants are expected to do for their underfloor installations in the different zones?

Or it could just be to make it look pretty.

Only thing I can think of is that the contractor has an exclusion zone identified in the SHE policy.

Basically - don't go in the red zone, as it's near the edge protection / openings in communal / lift shaft areas.

Interesting to know the reason though.

Don’t forget the Flatiron Building, at the junction of 5th Ave and Broadway, Manhattan, NYC.

You've got it!

I just asked someone there on my way back from Tesco. She confirmed it was floor sealant, where on most of the floor it's yellow-ish in colour and around the outside it's red to remind people not to put/store stuff there.

Result!
