Well that's a shame. Just reading the mail from Google about the new ad revenue rules.

4000hrs and 1000 subscribers min.

I have a channel that I started in August 2016. It only has about 120 videos but I have uploaded steadily over that time. Its mainly aviation videos that I have filmed and edited myself over the years.

When the chance to make a little money via monetization arrived I had a go and was pleasantly surprised when my vids started to make a few quid. At the moment I usually get a small payment around every 5 months or so.

Not a massive amount but considering the time editing etc was a nice little bonus.

Looking at my stats I have over the yearly hours but only 350 subscribers so come Feb the payments will stop.

I have a feeling that a lot of interesting content will vanish.

So you need 650 PHers to subscribe to your channel so you continue to receive payment?
They don’t even have to watch your videos, just bump up subscriber numbers?

These days, every time I encounter a video with adverts (especially an opening advert) I simply close the browser window.

What pisses me off even more, is getting a few minutes in to a video that's 30+ minutes long and then an advert is inserted.

So yes, Youtube was good while it lasted...

No doubt another service will be along shortly to fill it's shoes.

I'll happily pay for content that I actually want to subscribe to but to have to sit through an advert to watch some stupid short clip? Nope...

I wonder if anyone has ever purchased something, whose advert delayed the video you wanted to see.
More likely to hack you off & lose them a customer.

DanTDM makes about 12 million quid a year (inc merch and tour). Nice money!

I don't see who on earth watches these adverts. I use adblocker as do millions of people, so never see any. Plus if I'm forced to because, say, I'm at work or something I scroll down the window so I can't see the ad until it's finished. So I still never watch them. Can't believe youtube pay youtubers as they think views = revenue? confused

I have adblocking, but it doesn't always block tghe adverts inserted into videos.

Some months back, most of the videos I watched were delayed (I presume where the advert was running - but I didn't see it) now I see most of them.

Post your channel, there are a lot of aviators and aviation fans on here you will soon bust the 1000 subs barrier.

Thanks for the offer gents it's appreciated.

I've considered what I'm going to do and decided to leave the channel as it is now but will not add any more content.

It was created before it was possible to garner revenue from advertising for like minded enthusiasts so that's how I'll leave it :-)

YouTube red (not red tube) looks like the next big think in YouTube. It’s a paid streaming service with all these most folllowed youtubers producing content for it and some other YouTube only shows. I think it’s mainly for kids and young teens.

Aparently it’s out in the states but not in the Uk, my kids are waiting for it.

My kids love YouTube, they don’t watch any tv or sky or hardly even Netflix or amazon. Amazing how popular it is.

Apparently these new rules only apply to new applicants for monetisation, so you'll be grandfathered in.

Imagine the hosting costs on it, including the sheer amount of storage they must use. And 99% of it is complete rubbish that nobody ever watches. I'm not surprised they lose money.

Are you sure? Colin Furze has a red channel in you tube...... about £1.60 a pop if memory serves. Never watched it myself though
