In my case: as soon as this GTI is done.

Probably whenever the Skoda dies but I hope to get at least another three or four years out of it yet.

When my current car stops being £30 a year tax and stops returning 50mpg plus. Oh and when climate change gives us nice silent days so I can get a Tesla wall and power it from the sun free of charge. So no time soon.

Whenever it becomes appropriate for my needs/finances. Right now the high entry cost on pure electric vehicles is too high for me personally, but it'll come down with time.

I don't really care how a vehicle is powered, I love them all.

You dont need to charge the powerwall from solar..

just charge it from cheap economy 7 rates, and use it up during the expensive time

Likewise.

I would guess that it'll probably be the car after my next car.

I would own an electric car now, the only thing stopping me is not being able to park outside my own home (well parents).

Hoping to be moving into our own home in the summer and will be giving a serious consideration to a Nissan leaf. I do lots of miles (over 2500 in Jan) and drive regularly into London, I'd be saving a fair whack Vs the £11.50 congestion charge, 36mpg, £220 tax I currently pay for.

Plug-in hybrid now (lease until Jan 2019). Replacement will almost certainly be a proper battery-only EV.

Depends on the BIK loading in two years when it’s time to replace my Golf GTE or whether the Tesla Model 3 makes an appearance in the meantime with fewer build quality issues than the Model S!

Test driving the new Leaf this Saturday, so maybe fairly soon.

When something can do at least 250 miles on a single charge, costs less than £25k and doesn't look like a prop from a budget sci-fi show.

I'll keep my current diesel for the next 3-4 years, so possibly my next car. But probably not, I'll want something petrol and interesting for a few years while I still can...

Ran a Zoe for a couple of years and really liked driving it. Biggest problem was very poor reliability and erratic willingness to take a charge. I'd happily have another EV if I was confident reliability was sound. New Leaf looks ok actually.

If I owned two cars then I would theoretically be in a good position to have a battery-powerd EV right now (owns own driveway and commutes ~8 miles per day).

What's stopping is that a) I can't buy an EV as cheaply as a petrol, b) battery leasing means I'm tied to another monthly cost, c) the lack of range for the occasions I want to drive for hundreds of miles, and d) I do so love to drive a manual petrol.

Maybe in ten years I'll have a V8 powered something for high days and holidays and an EV for the rest of the time. I could live with that...

When it costs less overall than a petrol car and doesn't look hideous, the new Leaf is a step in the right direction.

I think we could easily manage with one EV and one IC. The problem at the moment is the complete absence of models that I want to own, at a price I can afford. Currently, it seems to be a choice between drab, beige, compromised ecoboxes with impractical ranges, or models with decent range, but with the performance and price of a supercar.

I'm interested to see what comes onto the market in the middle ground over the next few years. If something came on to the market that would seat 4, hit 60 somewhere around 5 seconds, do 300 miles on a charge, and cost under £40k, I would be seriously interested. Model 3 perhaps?

Probably next year, looking at moving house so I can get a charger, otherwise I'd already have one. The ZOE has a decent range now.

Personally? Never.

I could rattle off a couple of reasons why not - but I think the most honest one is that I prefer the sight, sound and feel of an ICE to an electric motor any day of the week.

End of story.

Never.

Saving money in place of having fun in a car isn't high up on the priority list.
