Simple, force social media companies that aggregate news and opinion to abide by the rules that every other media outlet has to (in the UK at least). Facebook, Twitter and Google have gotten away with things that regular news media wouldn't be able to do by presenting the "we are social media so we don't have to abide by any rules" card.The US has a rather unique set of court protections that allows news outlets to give dishonest and inaccurate news info without fear of censure. Why spend lots of money sending reporters out into the field and reporting on "news" when you can have a bunch of opinionated presenters in a studio making stuff up! (Looking at you Rupert) and reasonating those opinions again and again and again. It works really well because in a country of 300 million people you are bound to find immigrants that have killed. Just report those, dont report the other bad stuff.

Why would those fine white supremacists at Charlottesville attack the other white people, and black, and run people over?
The answer is that they don't share the same beliefs (not necessarily as trump puts it that they are mentally ill)
