Not that long after the roasting he got at the White House Correspondents' dinner. That dinner was those same elite types destroying him and it was glorious but as hinted in this thread of comments, a massive own goal.
Does he actually want them to burn or does he still desperately want to be invited into their club?
Everything he does smacks of desperation.

Not that long after the roasting he got at the White House Correspondents' dinner.I met with @realDonaldTrump on May 9, 2011 at 3PM at his office in Trump Tower. On his desk he had a large binder labeled “Iowa,” and on a side table he had “Trump For President” yard signs. He told me he was running for President in 2016.
I would testify this under oath.

He only said it because his supporters will believe it. To them, now they believe Russia started before they even knew Trump was running. End of. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-thinking-again-...

Alternative versions are available.
Thanks - I thought for a brief moment that it might stand for "Mothers Against Gun Assaults" but on second thoughts - Nah.Make America Great Again.

Lets lets just put this in simple terms
The Russians chose Trump and bought ads to support him and attack opponents.
They recruited activists to promote the same message trump was pushing. They organised rallies, focussed on the swing states.
Basically the russians did exactly what all campaigns do to win votes.
Not sure how it can be said they didn't influence the outcome

He wasn't allowed to play golf at Mar-A-Lago this weekend, his advisors thought it would look bad, so he was fuming, hence all the raging tweets. He's mostly sat in and watched Fox news.
NYT opinion piece isn't holding back. Quotes such as:
President Trump is either totally compromised by the Russians or is a towering fool, or both, but either way he has shown himself unwilling or unable to defend America against a Russian campaign to divide and undermine our democracy.
In sum, Trump is either hiding something so threatening to himself, or he’s criminally incompetent to be commander in chief.
