There's an awful lot of assumptions that this guard could have done something.
Indeed but It seriously diminishes the already weak argument that giving teachers concealed handguns would prevent it happening. The whole gun free zone being the cause stance is blown out of the water when it it becomes apparent there was a uniformed armed guard who wasn't a sufficient deterrent and failed to stop it.Tony33 said:

No-one with any sense really believes that argument though, it's primary school stuff.A yank friend of mine posted this on their fb wall.
"The 9mm handgun is generally regarded as an effective weapon; its bullet travels at 1,200 feet per second and delivers a kinetic energy of 400 foot pounds. By comparison, the standard AR-15 bullet travels at 3,251 feet per minute* and delivers 1300 foot pounds.
It also has about 1/3 the recoil of a hunting rifle, making its 45 rounds per second easy and accurate."

What this translates to for the victims, and those treating them:A yank friend of mine posted this on their fb wall.

For the NRA, and therefore Trump, to say that people exploit situations like this is yet another statement of hypocrisy. Mass shootings are good for business. Sales of guns and ammunition always spike. Talk of changes in legislation are also good business, as people stock pile. The NRA is one of the most powerful lobbyists. I don't think Trump has the balls to upset them.
Wayne LaPierre, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_LaPierre) the CEO of the NRA makes $5m a year fronting the organisation. He shares something with Trump "Despite a draft number (097)[7] that placed him in the “most likely to be drafted” category for 1970, he avoided military service during the Vietnam War." Apparently 5 million members and rising. I bet they're motivated voters, too.
NY Times now reporting that Gates will plead guilty.

I still think Mannafort thinks Trump will pardon him.

So tackle the problem at the source. Ban assault rifles outright.
- But handguns were used in x massacre (So what? Ban assault rifles)
- But loads of people already have assault rifles (So what? Ban assault rifles)
- But guns aren't the problem, people are (So what? Ban assault rifles)
- But the criminals will still have guns (So what? Ban assault rifles)
The thinking seems to be banning these things won't work, so might as well not bother. This seems flawed thinking to me - it might not immediately remove all these weapons from circulation but that's no reason not to do it.
There is no legitimate civilian use for an assault rifle.- But handguns were used in x massacre (So what? Ban assault rifles)

It's like being hit by a locomotive doing 100 mph.https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/...
I saw an MSNBC report saying that the muzzle velocity of the bullet as it leaves the barrel of the AR-15 is 2,182 mph. It doesn't bear thinking about what being hit by a projectile travelling at that speed would do to you.

I know we're at the stage where it's hardly surprising to hear him say stupid things, but this really is exceptional. Eric Mc said:
