I test drove an M5 today and was not wholly convinced, yes it obviously quick but the driving position is not amazing and didn't feel that connected to the drive. I didn't really push as I can't do that in an unknown car but I was also surprised the ride felt a bit jittery and road noise is quite high...I know it's not perfect but o thought it would blow me away compared to my Z4MC on all counts. Now I'm thinking I need to look at the XFR and C63 more closely having figured the M5 would be the one. I've not been in an E60 but the engine noise is fine for me even if not a patch on my old miltek e39 version. Maybe I needed more time to bond but just keen to hear others opinions as the entry point for the F10 Vs the others is fairly high and the approved used notably more limited in terms of warranty (12 Vs 24) months. Looking for a 5 seat performance car that can cruise and perform. Needs to be auto and practical to carry a family. Looking at a C63 wagon tomorrow and XFR next weekend. Do I just need to spend more time with the F10? Any experiences welcomed.

The c class rear seats are not big the F10 is a proper 5 adult capacity car/it’s a size up.

You need to compare the E55k/E63 against the M5 not the C63 as that’s against the M3

Drive the C63 and E63, have a look at Jags and RS4/RS6. None are perfect, but all have strong points.
I did that and ended up with an F10 M5. I like it more now that when I first got it a few years back.

It’s also a lot faster than a C63.

F10 M5 is like a scalded Cat fast.

E63S is an absolute weapon! Drove one for the first time last week. Would still go new M5 though and I haven't even driven one yet

What about for OPs position which must be £25-35k budget territory not new?

E63S wasn’t RHD 4matic in the U.K.

How long did you drive it? The M5 is a grower and it takes time to appreciate it. Did you have the suspension on sport/sport plus? I hardly ever use that as I generally leave the suspension in comfort and wouldn't say it was "jittery" at all.

The C63 is aimed at the M3, not the M5 and is a little too shouty for me. The XFR is a nice place place to be, well build and goes along nicely.

Ive just bought an F10 M5 yesterday in MC Blue.

On my first drive I felt the same - a bit bargy and not as hardcore as I would have liked (recently sold an F80)

That said you really need to spend time in it and get the settings to engine, steering and suspension set up how you prefer.

It's an absolute monster that I'd liken to a Polar bear - can be soft and playful but quite capable of ripping your face off with a little provocation.

You really need a good few hours in one before deciding imo

I gave 28k for it. It's a 2012 with the ugly steering wheel

What a machine though!

It's a real handful in the damp though - it gets out of shape in the first 4 gears with too much throttle

Lot of car for the £.
Given its 2012 do you get the LCI pro Nav? Also did you get one with the special seats?

Not sure tbh - It's pro NAV and looks/operates the same as my 2014 F07 so maybe yeah.

No seats are just black standard seats - elec/memory/heated.

It's got HUD and TV though tongue out

ETA - it was this one https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

I was actually looking at that very Advert Friday night.... but I’m not ready just yet.

Lovely car well played. I’ll be joining the club soon.

Wow that's a coincidence.

It's an absolute minter too. Extremely original, unabused and the seller was a really lovely bloke who'd had it since 2013. Weirdly he'd just shelled out over 2k on new discs and pads at BMW. Brucie bonus

I have only recently started driving it in D3 (rather than D2) and it changes the Beast considerably, with an uncanny ability to predict gears - much more responsive! As an example, you accelerate and then have to brake, and it will shift down automatically, to ensure that the revs are up.

The F10 M5 takes some time to get under your skin, but it really does the full Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde extremely well, depending on your settings, which are conveniently storable in M1 and M2.

I test drove the dick lovett car, really like silverstone for this type of car. It’s totally stock but well priced for an approved car and to be honest I’m not sure I ‘need’ any of the options especially as there seems to be quite an affordable way to add reverse cam as a retrofit. The looks are fairly subtle but the massive brakes and wheels do make it a bit more obvious up close! I’m certainly thinking that the M represents the most bang for buck in this secondhand market! The fuel economy of the c63 is ridiculous all the time and the M5 is definitely more sensible for longer cruises and carrying more people. The XFR looks are better with the facelift but the front lights have a touch of Halfords and the interior is definitely of an earlier era. I can’t shake the old man feeling around the jag...so back to the M5!

Looks a nice car. Any warranty? I know I wouldn't go near one without one.

Suspension in comfort mode is very good, and I use it all the time around town. I suspect you had it in one of the firmer modes which I personally don't use very often, mainly at higher speeds on motorway journeys when you get better body control. Obviously if you wanted to push on a bit on country roads you would put in one of the sport modes as well. The M buttons are great for this as you can change to a sporty set up at the touch of a button.

What I don't understand is why anyone would use it in automatic? They're just never in the right gear!

I've had mine a year and this is very true. At first I found the throttle far too sensitive, but you learn to adjust to it. Even then, low speed manouveres with the throttle in sport plus are amusing. This is the first and only car I have wheelspan in reverse!

Of the various settings, the gearbox has the most impact on the drive. D1 is very much about cruising, with D2 the car comes alive, as if you have dropped a big weight. I tend to use manual rather than D3 as it holds the gears longer than I usually would.

The thing I am most appreciating now, is the speed of the steering and the levels of front end grip. You can really chuck this car into a corner. The throttle is the thing that unsticks it and you just need to be patient with it.

I think it is a car with real depth and character.

Yep got the BMW/meridian warranty

That said they have nothing like the reputation that the E60 has.
