The police must know where they live? Dawn raid take all thier scooters, release them upon proof of ownership, mot, insurance etc, plus compulsory fingerprinting to see if any outstanding. Easy.
It is easy for the crooks, that's the problem.

Stolen bike - check
Cover your face - check
No comment on arrest - check

Released without charge, as the crooks say, no face, no case.

Police cannot pursue when one of them removes their helmet.

Change the law, police can ram regardless of wearing a helmet or not, would soon sort the men from the boys.

In europe mopeds have always been popular so how do police in Italy Spain etc deal with moped Crime surely there is a solution etc or the whole world would just be awash with moped issues

Where is Charles Bronson when you need him? Seriously, if a Mirror reporter can track down and interview this slime, what the hell are the Police doing?

An I assume in Spain they get it wrong as many times as we would but are happy with that risk so lets do the same. Victim does not need to fight back but the scum know if the police chase them they will be run off the road

We need to be absolutely firm that if a copper indicates you to stop, you do so. If in anyway you disobay their request anything that happens afterwards is pretty much your fault. Everyone should also be aware that they will always give chase until the offender is aprehended.

I'm so bored of all these "promising young footballers" being untouchable.

The problem isn't "promising young footballers", the problem is a litigious society.

If a copper chases down a scrote and knocks someone over, that someone can now sue the police for £££ and plenty of shyster lawyers out there to maximise your compensation.

No one cares if the scrote gets injured(apart from his family who, despite all evidence to the contrary, still think he is a little innocent angel) but its the innocent people the scrote,or a police car, accidently injure in the chase, that cops are worried about.

I wonder if you had a device that was set to explode if it was more than 50m away from you....and it looked like a phone...and you just happened to have it in your hands in the street as a moped thief went bywhistle .....would that be illegal? frown Probably

Or an explosive device embedded in your fuel tank, which is disarmed by the phone in your pocket being within 20m.

ETA: Doesn't even need to be an 'explosive' explosive: just a small spark plug with a digital switch.

When you’ve got the police basically saying the onus is on the owners to prevent theft, rather than taking the lead in detecting and working with the cps to prevent this then you realise how fked it is. Look at mets proposal:

the mayor thinks it the manufacturers fault

What a useless tt that bloke is. Beggars belief reading some of that.

If bikes become more secure you'll simply see a further rise in the attacking of delivery drivers and other innocent riders where keys and other security devices can be taken.

The only way this will stop is taking away their fearless attitude and allowing Police to start knocking them off their bikes. Give them a taste of some of fear they're giving their victims.

"Ghost and Mr X also target delivery drivers. Ghost pointed out that by ordering a takeaway you actually get the bike delivered straight to you."
