Ok
Is it just me or does anyone miss the old GT3
It chattered away in the background and was raw
The new one is much more civilised ( until you hit the floor! )
But I miss the noise ....
Progress !

The manual makes the 991.2 car, Auto's are well Automatics and hold zero interest.

Not sure what difference manual makes to the noise and raw feel ?
Personally I take pdk all day long
Had the Boxster Spyder for a year - manual
Never enjoyed it
But everyone is different

Not for one second. The PDK-S was well suited to the car but I found the car relatively uninvolving unless driven like a bat out of hell. I much prefer the manual 991.2 GT3.

Difficult to define....but the gen2, through my eyes, shows signs of VW's involvement in terms of value engineering. Generally looks to be of slightly lesser quality.

Probably just my perception.

For the things that really matter to drivers, people who own GT3's I would have thought, the gen 2 is so much better. Manual gearbox. Engine an absolute masterpiece. Aesthetics? Pays your money and takes your choice on that - seem much of a muchness to me.

This has been going on for a few years now imo. Every time I'm down at my Indy garage and he has a collection of 993, 996,997 and 991s on the lift it's very clear from looking at the car from the underside that quality of the product isn't what it was. Only the visual parts on the newer stuff has maintained it quality look feel, everything else has been replaced with budget in mind.

I'm with you. Even visually it's much simplified with an eye to reducing costs and not in a good way. I can even see it between 991.1 and 991.2

I think 997.2 GT3 RS for me next time.

But most, if not all, wanted out and away from the .1 3.8, they wanted the proven .2 4.0 engine.

However, I think the .1 will end up being a rare beast. Has anyone here in the uk heard and been confirmed the 10 yr warranty ?...

Well it's not rare and it's an Automatic with a iffy engine, after 10 years no one will touch them imo and we are about 1/2 way there now.

A friend took delivery of a 991.1 GT3 today from an OPC. He has the warranty confirmed in writing for 10 years or 120k miles, whichever comes sooner.

Interesting because my 996 turbo blew up with 2000 miles on it,My 997 turbo had an electrical failure with under 1k miles which led to me making porsche buy it back from me.Since then I have had a 986 boxster,987 boxster, cayenne ,991gts,a gt4 and not one single issue with any of them.

I had a 991.1 and the pdk was much more brutal than I expected. It was almost a pain in town and would not hesitate to let you know it hated it. You really had to get out on some flowing roads to appreciate it.

By comparison the box of my 458 Speciale was more civilised at town speeds. Which sound quite the paradox.

I am yet to drive my 991.2 touring arriving shortly. I hope it will be all it’s hyped to be and more involving more of the time. Although I have to say the Speciale was indeed incredibly special at all speeds even with a DCT ;-)

I’ve had both and although not vastly different I can’t see a situation ever in the future where you’d pick at .1 over .2 ( unless price alone ).

And that’s without even mentioning the manual . ( which I’ve just mentioned )
