Good to see this is going through.

Be interesting to see the reasons for opting out, I can't think of any rational objections.

Well other than horror stories about doctors being a little too enthusiastic about harvesting organs?

I carried an organ donor card for years.

I am now opting out because I refuse to have anybody make decisions like that for me. Tough on those that would otherwise benefit but how dare the authorities try to presume what I want to do based on their wishes rather than mine.

All they had to do was ask people nicely rather than dictate, but they're too arrogant for that.

Good, common sense. Why would anybody care what happens to their organs when they're no longer using them?

Interesting. Odd, but interesting.

I see your point but the outcome in this instance is somewhat strange.

I imagine it was introduced because it's somewhat trickier for someone to make a decision like that after they've died.

If it makes you feel better, though: "Please be an organ donor. Thanks."

They've been asking people politely for decades and people have ignored them meaning more and more people are dying while waiting for transplants.

You're basically letting people potentially die just because you want to have a tantrum.

So ask in advance rather than presume to help themselves.

If you should require anything after I'm dead then you're very welcome, sir. Anyone wanting to just arrogantly help themselves can sod right off.

I'm a bad person. OTOH they didn't need to provoke said tantrum.

I don't see it as arrogance, I see it as a totally common sense move to help people who may be suffering in the most unimaginable ways at zero cost to yourself.

They didn't ask, they just decided. That's arrogance.

I (and presumably others) don't like being dictated to and automatically resist. They have the ability to ask me do I wish to, YES/NO (eg attached to my tax return) but have instead decided to act in a high-handed manner that puts my back up. A consequence of this is that I won't comply.

I put it to you that if I came demanding you do abc then your automatic reaction would be to tell me where to shove it. I'm doing exactly that.

That article doesn't support your statement.

You come across as being a very silly person.

The person who needs it when the time comes would have loved the opportunity to ask you nicely.

Still, that'll show those arrogant politicians.

I stated earlier that I'm a bad person.

As I said, all they have to do is ask me nicely.

I've encountered him before. He is.

I wouldn't personally want organs from anyone who's opted out because it's been turned into an "opt-out". I've heard enough stories about people getting personality quirks following organ transplants (though I think they may be mostly BS) but who'd want to run the risk of becoming "very silly"?

A) You've posted a conspiracy website which is famously going to turn up entirely rational arguments.
B) What's stopping them now?

In essence they are. If your answer is no then answer no. If your answer is yes then you don't need to do a thing.

It's too important a subject to get indignant about the method of asking and I wouldn't call wanting to save lives arrogance.

I used to carry a card but I don't now (low on my list for sorting out). I'm happy for consent to be implied.
