From my Facebook - Sad News from Cumbria!

The famous Hartside Cafe was close to home and many of people mainly Car and bike enthusiasts who liked to stop off for a bite to eat.

The Hartside Cafe has been gutted after a fire broke out today. Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) were called at 2:23pm.

The fire is now out and no one was injured. Severe damage was caused including a total roof collapse. Fire investigation is underway. #cumbria 🚒

We believe there is a Donation Page circulating and number of Local Car Groups are looking at creating events which will also raise funds to get the cafe back up and running, we will have all these details in due course.

A true petrolhead experience up here. Drive to the cafe, have a cup of tea and slice of carrot cake then assess the traffic on the hairpins from the elevated position before heading out for the rest of the drive. Sad indeed :-(

Really sad; amazing drive up there and it was a great place to stop off and admire the view (or lack of it when the fog rolled in!)

Hopefully the place can be rebuilt frown

Yep, Never needed much persuasion to detour that way to the Lakes. A few PH runs up there too. I hope it's back up and running better than ever soon.

Any further word on this?

I've heard via my son, who works wit the former chef, that it's going to be flattened and rebuilt and a temporary Portakabin type operation put in place during the build.

Has anyone else heard any rumours?

It's on my local 'circuit' and I will miss dropping in over the summer.

I’d be amazed if they haven’t got a temporary solution in place by now , I’d of thought the insurance company would insist on it being rebuilt asap.

..might have a look up there later today.

I suppose that depends on whether a) they are insured! b) and whether the policy includes business interuption
