I saw the coverage of them blockading the road outside the hospital, and attacking cars that were trying to get past. I feel for the parents of other children at the hospital, as well as the staff, who probably feel quite threatened by the mob outside.

To be honest, I do feel that they should be allowed to take him abroad if they feel that’s the best choice. The U.K. medical system has already decided there’s little that can be done, so what’s the harm in letting him go on the basis that it is acknowledged as at the risk of the parents?

I guess the trouble is that when you have cases like Ashya King, parents will understandably question the decisions of the professionals.

They want to keep him on life support indefinitely.

What good does that serve?
My apologies, I thought there was an option for helping him rather than leaving him hooked up to a life support machine.

What really bugs me is how the religious, pro-life nutters have got involved i.e. Pavel Stroilov and the like.

From what I can see, they're a bunch of deluded fanatics who are happy to stoop so low as to leach onto something as sad as a terminally ill child and take advantage of the grieving parents purely in the hope of gaining exposure. Sickening.

Possibly at the beginning but now the father is milking it for all he's worth.

He's a stabby scumbag. This is his lottery win.

At least the mum is more dignified, it seems.

I know someone who works at AH and has looked after Alfie and the parents are not nice people (polite way to put it)

They've made a fortune out of all this

I can well believe it.

If Charlie Gard hadn't happened, these two wouldn't be doing this. At least not in this manner.

Still, nice little earner innit...

May have been an alternative cure that was not tested, or the U.K. doctors didnt believe would work. Again, a bit like the incident with Ashya King

It's not at all like that case.

UK doctors recommended a treatment they believed would work and that was available in the UK (Chemo + radio therapy). The parents disagreed and wanted to take him abroad for another form of treatment that they believed would also work but with fewer side effects (proton beam therapy).

There was never any suggestion by the UK doctors that the proton therapy would not work - the doctors just didn't think there was sufficient benefit over and above the treatment already on offer, to warrant the risk of moving him - so they denied the approval of funding to move him abroad.

In the Alfie Evans case - there is no treatment on offer either in the UK or Italy.

Yep sadly the lights are on and know one is home. In Ayshas case he was very much mentally there.

Given the way they [the parents] are acting, that's not surprising to hear.

It's also ridiculous to see the way this has been reported in the media

The bigger story here is the abuse nurses and doctors are getting on their way in to work every day. The same doctors and nurses who these morons will no doubt be seeking the help of if something ever happens to their child.

It's nice to see the posts on Facebook of parents whose children were looked after on ICU at AH but sadly passed away. They couldn't be more grateful for the quality of care their child received and how brilliant the nurses and doctors are

Some mindbogglingly stupid tweets from AlfiesArmy, although some of the replies to the madness are quite amusing. A couple I recall from scanning thru them today:

Tweet: The Pope has demanded Alfie be flown to Rome. Surely the British govt have to listen to the pope?
Reply: I think we dealt with that issue about 500 years ago. Suggest you google Henry VIII, the Reformation and the like. Hope this helps.
Reply: I'm going to take a flyer here, and say you never read history at Cambridge!

Tweet: Free Alfie Evans from Alder Hey Hospital!
Reply: Wow, that's generous. I would have been happy with a diary or a USB stick like most places give out.

Appeal rejected "Justice McFarlane: This is awful for everyone concerned. We are in the middle of palliative care plan at Alder Hey Hospital. I can see no basis that judge was wrong."

Earlier: "Judge: Alfie Evans’ father has been “plain, brave, unflinching & unstinting” in stating his faith “but court’s view has been that what he wants is not, awfully, in Alfie’s best interests”"

Hopefully now the circus at the hospital can wind down. Hopefully his father will face reality and provide the love and support his partner will require at this sad time.

You'd like to think so, but I'm not holding out much hope.

One of the stupidest i've seen was on Facebook saying the Italian ambassador should go and get him and take him to Italy. As if he is allowed to kidnap a child as he has diplomatic immunity....
