Little to close to home this one. 2 of the people killed were outside my older brothers apartment complex, had yesterday not be the anniversary of my younger brothers death, he and his wife would have been walking to the subway to go to work at the time of the incident.

The world is slowly going to hell.

I mean, seriously, how about checking the facts before spouting your racist twaddle.

So the reason he did this is because he isn't getting sex? Well, he'll certainly be receiving sex now.

Indeed. But not a million miles away from some of the views you'll find expressed on here.

I think that's a bit unfair. I can only speak for myself - I spent a few years being single but I didn't kick up a fuss about it, I still supported feminism (as in equal rights for all) and just got on with life. Sure, it sucks a bit in summer when you see couples in parks etc but that is it. These guys forming this "movement" have some kind of angry mental disorder and probably ought to seek help.

'Snakes with tits'

'Don't get married; if you do, hide your assets from her'

And then there's the (not so)subtle victim blaming in rape cases and the view that women who work at events like the PC dinner should expect a good groping.

I'm not saying it's endemic, but it is on here.

Jeremy Vine is talking about it on Radio 2 now.

Funnily enough no one has mentioned his motive being he wanted to be a 'Chad' instead of an 'Incel'

The first two isn't quite the same as the incel stuff, though. It's always wise to be cautious.

Here's one to ponder....do you think that if the internet had never existed, this attack and possibly a good few others would never have happened?

It's an interesting one. To think of two examples, there have always been paedophiles, but the internet has allowed them to share images; there have always been terrorists, but the internet has allowed others to recruit/radicalise new 'soldiers'.

I don't know if the internet is responsible for attacks like this, but it is responsible for making people feel that their views are more 'mainstream' than they actually are and then those views are reinforced.

Terrorists were recruited in other ways before widespread use of the internet though, it was just more focused on the local community who didn’t know any better.

For all of its benefits, the web allows for massive confirmation bias among those who are isolated in the 3D world...they can find like minded people who make them feel that their feelings are OK. Just look at something like anorexia websites that encourage self starvation, white supremacist, terrorist, you name it. They create communities where even the most aberrant behaviour is characterized as normal and acceptable. This guy was following another killer's story for similar feelings of rejection. You see it with the school shooters studying Columbine etc. He might have done something anyway but I think in his case that the web helped him.

Speaking about stuff on here - this is remarkably quiet for a terrorism thread. Even more so with someone that has a foreign sounding name. Surprised it wasn't jumped on by a lot of the posters in NPE.

Thoughts go to the victims.

Why the meeja insist on taking photos of screen instead of screenshots I don’t know.
At this stage I wouldn't believe that anymore than an attempt to get an Islamic angle.
Can't be a real thing, can it?

Most defintely, the internet started out as a wonderful thing unfortunately a bad element have used it to their advantage. Too much recently. Time for the world wide web to have a huge factory reset and only vetted websites allowed back on there. Would that be possible?

Find a copy of Elliot Rogers' 'manifesto' and you'll get the perfect insight into these people. It's a combination of extreme toxic masculinity, narcissism, self-entitlement and genuine mental illnesses. But the mindset it generates and the sheer level of misogynistic rage it can create in people is horrific. Mostly because, as mentioned up-thread, the online world forms these self-reinforcing bubbles where socially-awkward teenage guys who feel they're being left behind relationship-wise get told that they're doomed never to have sex because shallow
females
will reject them because their wrists are too narrow or some BS like that. Then they all try to out-do each other with murder/rape fantasies about how they're going to either 'get what's rightfully theirs' or 'punish the world for abandoning us' until one of them actually goes out and does it.

You'd almost feel sorry for them because they clearly need some sort of intervention or help...then they back-slap each other about things like this happening and my ember of sympathy snuffs out completely.

Ha ! A "reset" ?

Who defines the good or the bad ? the Govt ? that would be a total disaster and in many places total suppression of the publics opinion.

No, its the Web, its what we are as a species, we are not all the same, we are not right or wrong and we must all muddle along as best we can. The net is a damn good tool for keeping those who seek total power in check.

One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.
