I thought we were assured this wasn't going to happen if we voted out?

I don't recall any such assurance. If that's what the EU wants to do though then it's up to them. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/brits-could-...

Lots of things were "promised" - and all of them were lies or have been shown to be political garbage.
Yeah - fancy not seeing through them eh?Like every other remnant prediction of gloom, despondency and financial ruin it seems this one has all the hallmarks of being utter twaddle too. You would have thought after more than two years of these stories being totally ineffective and even laughed at by almost everyone, that the "highly intelligent" people on the remain side who keep bashing them out would realise...

Come on, it's nothing.
If you fly from Norwich Airport, you have to pay a 10 quid "Airport Development Fee" to get through to security.
It's only people like Jawknee Thanks You that are trying to make a big deal out of it.
lmao, is Norwich Airport owned by Balfour Beatty as well?If you fly from Norwich Airport, you have to pay a 10 quid "Airport Development Fee" to get through to security.

Blackpool Airport used to charge a £10 'development fee', that money was clearly put to good 'developing'
It's a total rip off but worth it not going down to Heathrow.

As a principle it doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Tourists will contribute more than £6 to the economy and the tax receipts of any country they visit, whilst not using the services that those taxes pay for for residents.
It always leaves a bad impression with me when you visit a country and have to pay the Government for your stay when you've donated large quantities of cash during your stay, it's just tight and annoying. I wouldn't support the UK having a similar charge as we're above that sort of chiselling nonsense.
If it gets brought up by the EU during negotiations in a "If you do x,y,z we won't charge you our daft new tax" kind of way then I would approve of reciprocating the charge for EU nationals only.
As a means of channelling more money from the economy to the EU while ignoring the need to sort out a post-Brexit budget, it works.
I think you and "many" here dont really understand what the tax is for, you think bs eu wants to charge us out of spite or something. Tax is mainly to cover a more thorough background check on who is entering the eu, believe this is what nigel and the brexiteers wanted all along for Britain and it looks like open borders Britain and better checks for eu countries
ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT THIS IS NOT 1975. Things have changed a bit since then

eu website says said:
Frontex, the EU border surveillance agency, collects data on illegal crossings of the EU's external borders registered by national authorities. In 2015 and 2016, more than 2.3 million illegal crossings were detected.
Lets hope all these people paid for their "more thorough background check" eh...Edited by Vanden Saab on Thursday 26th April 23:21

Well at the moment we import two £20 widgets for every one we export therefore we have a trade deficit. If the widgets are £15 instead of £20 our trade deficit is reduced. Or is this too simple to be true?
Compared to you, anyone is highly intelligent. No quotes needed.Edited by jjlynn27 on Friday 27th April 00:17

one of the main reasons people voted out was the control over immigration - (even if incorrectly)
So nobody should complain about more stringent border rules.
I welcome them.
You may have it as a main reason but literally no other leave voters on pistonheads had this as one of the main reasons for voting leave though if you believe what they write. So nobody should complain about more stringent border rules.
I welcome them.
Amazing isnt it?
Of those who voted to leave 49% of voters didn't have control over immigration as their main reason for voting leave, so it wouldn't be beyond belief that those posting on PH didn't also have immigration control as their main reason for voting leave either.
It's amazing you couldn't work that out for yourself.
