My sister and her partner decided they wanted a child that was "theirs". My sister volunteered to carry it. She'd had two already, her partner just the one. My sister is definitely the more maternal of the two.
Donor was a friend of a friend. Not sure if they ever actually met him, but they knew that he was healthy and reasonably intelligent.
