What are the downsides of getting the above phone now? Purely software updates?

My girlfriend still runs one, it's just a bit slow in some apps.

I've got two 6Ss (One personal, one work) and they are also showing signs of struggling with certain apps. Nothing crippling like when the 3G & 4s got towards 2 years old but enough to make me look at upgrading some time in the next 6 months

New Apps and software will be designed for the latest phones so it won't get any quicker

Thanks for that. I was looking at new handsets at cheap prices. Probably a false economy then.

As Apple revealed recently, they slow down older models due to battery degeneration so that the batterys can better cope with the demand of the phone.

So if you had an iPhone 6 with a new battery you wouldn’t have this issue so it would purely be the change in processer speed that could hold you back.

I seemed to have missed the 6s scandal, in that mine is still working well however I got the 6s at the time rather than the 7 due to no headphone socket no longer on phones post 6s.

Edit. Not sure what options are around today for headphones.

Just had the battery replaced on my 6 and it’s now just as good and quick as the day it was new.

I still run a 6S. As others have said, it's a great device but it's getting quite slow now. Mine had the free battery change from Apple. I normally change my phone every 2 years but just kept this one going on SIM only and never felt the need to change up. Saying that, I do want a bigger screen and something faster as I'm on it all the time. Can't get away with the X. The replacement for the home button just doesn't work well. I'l probably get an 8 plus or wait for the next iteration but I'm in no massive hurry to move. The 6S is still a brilliant device with the added bonus of a cheap SIM.

My mate has a 7 plus and he took some photo's of my youngest playing outside and there is definitely a huge improvement on camera quality over the 6S if that's important to you. Not that the 6/6S has a bad camera but the newer ones are definitely a step up.

I like that my phone still has the headphone jack for my headphone amplifier. I'm still getting my head around having to carry around an extra dongle to connect my audio kit up when I move over.

Likewise, and it's a snip at £25 for Apple to do it for you.

£ for £ I think its the best phone you can get, mine is 4 years old in October, its still great for what i use it for. I also have a 16 month old S8, the old iPhone is faster, is more reliable and apps work on it all the time.

I am going to replace the iphone with a new 7 or 8 soonish, but only because it is starting to get a bit gritty, I would get the battery swapped, but its 4 years old almost and is a bit rough round the edges, having been dropped a thousand times, sat on etc. It is still a great phone.

I have the 6 plus and had the battery replaced by apple a few weeks ago, it is still frustratingly slow sometimes, I really need to replace it. I would not buy one from new and would get something newer and faster.

Not true.

Back in July my phone was replaced for a new one by Apple. Not a refurb. When the software updates came in Octoberish mine was down-clocked like everybody else's. It was nothing to do with the age of the battery.

I have a 6s+ and my wife has a 6s and we are about to do the battery swap with Apple for £25 each. Did you end up having to reset the iPhone? Will be a ballache if we have to do that on both phones!

I still use a 6 and see no reason to change. Battery is reporting 92% capacity (although has dropped from 94% when the iOS came out a few weeks ago).

Latest OS update.
Go to settings.
Go to battery.
Tap "battery health (beta).

Edit.
On a Mac, get Coconut battery, plug in phone, run coconut battery.

Not sure there is a PC version.

Oh that's why I hadn't seen it, still on iOS 10.
Got a few good apps that won't work if I upgrade.
Michelin map of France that they discontinued for one.
