Now even trying to consider both sides, does this seem like Democrats are asking questions and the GOP are simply each having a speech defending him?
That was the point I was trying to make, but I made it clumsily. Nyphur said:

Indeed. When Dr Ford was in the seat she was asked questions about the incident from both sides whereas the GOP Senators seems to be making statements rather than asking questions about the incident. Kavanaugh seemingly cannot give yes or no answers to simple finite questions from the Democratic Senators.
To be fair, as much as I hate this batch of Republicans, I felt the Dems were just as bad when Dr Ford was on. A lot of grandstanding and praise. It was kind, but there was very few questions, and lots of "I believe you". moanthebairns said:
Can someone explain to me, just what the actual fk is going on here.
Just pretend I haven't read anything about this before now or the American justice system.
The supreme court (SCOTUS) get to make the deciding cast in stone legal decisions on anything based on law in the US. Just pretend I haven't read anything about this before now or the American justice system.
Members of SCOTUS are placed there for life (until they retire or are impeached).
Its a massive political football because it decides on fundamental ideology like abortion rights.
GOP/Republicans have had a long term plan to take control of SCOTUS by installing far right members and blocking any left wing appointees.
This is so they can enforce their views on everyone legally.
Added bonus at the moment is SCOTUS is likely to be making decisions around the President and his legal standing.
The most interesting part for me was when the judge presumed to tell Senators how they should exercise their constitutional rights and obligations.
And that not one Senator called him on it.
For me, the manner in which he has conducted himself in this matter is somewhat unbecoming of a prospective Supreme Court Justice. He seems no better than the politicians. That alone should - in an ideal world - disqualify him.
