I'm not fond of religion, but I appreciate the art it has inspired.

You may disagree with him but Dawkins doesn’t say that all religions are equally bad. His position hasn’t changed.

If you look at the actual impact that different religions have on the world it’s quite apparent that at present the most evil religion in the world has to be Islam.
It’s terribly important to modify that because of course that doesn’t mean all Muslims are evil, very far from it. Individual Muslims suffer more from Islam than anyone else.
They suffer from the homophobia, the misogyny, the joylessness which is preached by extreme Islam, Isis and the Iranian regime.
So it is a major evil in the world, we do have to combat it, but we don’t do what Trump did and say all Muslims should be shut out of the country. That’s draconian, that’s illiberal, inhumane and wicked. I am against Islam not least because of the unpleasant effects it has on the lives of Muslims.

In the 1930s Roman Catholicism was probably the most dangerous religion in the world given it's links to various Fascist regimes, now the most dangerous is probably Islam.
Dawkins has set out his position many times, but people will pick and choose quotes out of context to make a weak point.

I've only even been inside one mosque - the Grand Mosque in Muscat, Oman. It's stunning, both inside and out.
Churches I have long admired - architecturally only, as I am atheist - but when you look at all of the places and think of how few contemporary buildings survive, let alone were so impressive in the first instance, it does make you think. A lot of the money was taxed from or donated by people who were living in places thrown together with sticks and mud.

Dawins is ace.
I like my village church, They allow villagers up the tower every so often, it's pretty cool, one can see the tall tower in Manchester.
The pics of art posted are lovely, I prefer patterns over old stylised representations, so I find the mosque stuff timeless.
As said, it's also important to understand how churches came to be. Cheeky gets still go on about funding for the roof even though the CoE is one of the richest organisations in the UK.

Interestingly a least two other atheists I can think of off the top of my head took the same position - Christopher Hitchens and Penn Jillette.Dawkins said:

I particularly liked Jillette's view on it - paraphrasing, but he said that Islam is evil and wrong; it is an idea, and there is nothing wrong with hating or disagreeing with an idea. However we shouldn't hate a person because they choose to follow Islam. "Hate the idea but not the person" is something I fully agree with.

I remember walking into St Peters Basilica in awe which as walked further in turned to disgust. I can't think of anything else that is a greater monument to man's desire for greed and power.
That's all the main religions are.
As was said, Islam just happens to be the worst of the bunch at this time. Let's hope it wanes as others have before. Can't see it though, the 'home' cultures are too ingrained and vice versa so will require many many generations to even begin to change.

This. Kind of.The problem isn't religion is as much as how religion is used. Every major religion has been used to justify one terrible act or another. There are Christian armies using Child soldiers in places like Uganda (The Lords army headed by our old mate, Kony, for one) but we just don't see that on the front page of the Daily Mail for some strange reason...
Using Kony as an example isn't to say Christianity is evil, rather it says that Kony is evil and is using religion as a tool to control people. Religions themselves are not anthropomorphic. I say the same about Al-Quedea, ISIS/ISIL, Abu Sayeff, MILF and the rest of that lot. The problem with terrorism are terrorists, not whatever sky faerie they believe in.
So attacking the religion for the act of extremists will only draw moderates to the side of the extremists.
As for Dawkins, I think people are reading too much into it. For me the important bit was the last sentence "or is that just my cultural upbringing".
