Without giving away exactly how I know; the police know which country he is in and which friends and family are helping him, but have yet to reach the level of proof needed to satisfy that country's extradition requirements, beyond reasonable doubt.
well that's good, hopefully the POS will be behind bars soon.
Unless I misheard I'm sure I heard on the radio this week that the police know he's hiding in Georgia (the country rather than the US state).
the solution i suspect is too look at who is funding him friends family are then go after them to lure him back. If he did it all on his own cancel his passport (illegal I know) but he can have a new one when he goes to the embassy....till then he can never come back to the uk
Why does he need funding? He is a web developer so can find work anywhere if half decent.

Also being a techie, he will be capable of buying false passports on the dark web.

Makes you wonder if/when he would have been caught had he not handed himself in.

I think he would. It's difficult to keep yourself hidden these days. You can't just jump on the next steamer to New York and lice under a false name. You need money and he won't have had any as any withdrawals from his accounts would be noticed. High level crims with good support networks manage it for a while but even they get caught eventually.

Could be a number / combination of factors. Perhaps he wasn't able to survive any more because he had no money.

He was granted leave to appeal his sentence (IIRC) so he may fancy his chances .

What would the punishment be if this accident occurred behind the wheel of a car? I know there is £1000 fine and six points for allowing unlicensed person to drive but us there any previous case where someone has died before?

It's manslaughter so the means isn't that relevant as opposed to the culpability and aggravating and mitigating factors.

With a car you'd have the option of death by dangerous driving as an alternative charge.

I'm assuming absconding is a stand alone offence so even if his original charges are quashed under appeal he could still be separately sentenced for this offence?

The Police new where he was and had been watching him. They just wanted the whole "system" to be correct and ready to get him. Chances are they let him hand himself in first .

His stupid Ewan McGregor beard doesn't do him any favours.

He doesn't come across as a particularly likeable person in this video interview, he seems to have this idea that the woman's Dad doesn't like him, funny that!

There's a lot going for Georgia. It was affordable, it had a generous visa regime, and it also had mountains and sea and it was just this country I'd always wanted to visit — I think the culture is very wonderful."

Difficult to know where to begin with that statement.

Running away was bad, but his attitude. It's like some horrible comic character.

It would seem that he has form for not co-operating with the judicial system. This extract from 6 months ago.

Shepherd is also wanted by police for failing to attend court over another unrelated matter.

Think it relates to this case.

“Jack Shepherd could escape justice for glassing a barman two years after killing his date Charlotte Brown on the Thames.

The thug launched a vicious attack on David Beech in March last year, around the time he went on the run from justice for killing his date while showing off in his speedboat.

He was charged with grievous bodily harm for glassing the barman at the White Hart Hotel in Dartmoor, near his mother’s house. But prosecutors apparently felt he had been sufficiently punished with his six-year jail term for killing Miss Brown, 24.”

His comments about the woman’s Dad were very strange.

“ I feel at risk from him and his power in the prison system” - wtf!

Jack Shepherd said:
Charlotte Brown's father works in the prison system of the UK, he's a civil servant of some influence.

The CPS [Crown Prosecution Service] decided not to prosecute me but he appealed this. He was able to leverage his power in the system to get a QC appointed to oversee the case, which was very unusual.'

'The father met with the Home Secretary in the UK and this is testament to the fact he has some kind of leverage within the system.

'It's also why there has been so much press coverage in the UK. I've only spoken to him once but he took the opportunity to tell me I would have a very bad time in prison.

'I said, 'I'm so sorry Graham' but he didn't want to hear it and hung up. I feel at risk from him and his power in the prison system, and that's the reason I ran away. I blamed myself at the time and said I was very drunk and driving too fast, but an assessment of the facts shows we were actually going below the speed limit. I'm very, very frightened about what might happen, but it seemed like this is the right thing to do. I hope justice will prevail and my appeal will be successful.'

From that it would seem that alcohol consumption is an issue for him. It features in both cases.
The pic of him with his undercrackers on display says quite a lot about him I reckon.
