Two people die leaving just one = reduction. Two people die (with 3 kids) leaving three = an increase of one. No?

If every couple on the planet had just one kid would the worlds population go up or down over time?

TX.

If you had no children and took your self out when you decided that there were too many people on the planet it would have been much quicker.

“More than half a million children in the UK were not given a crucial measles jab between 2010 and 2017, an analysis by children's charity Unicef reveals.
It comes as NHS chief Simon Stevens warned measles cases had almost quadrupled in England in just one year and urged families to get the vaccine.
He said people rejecting vaccines was a "growing public health time bomb".”

I was pleased with the reporting on the news today, they seemed to be really pushing the 'get vaccinated' line.

It's a disturbing thread of the many that are anti-science.

Flat Earthers, creationists, climate change deniers, Anti-Vaxxers, homeopathy, and all the rest.

All take advantage of the colloquial misunderstanding of the words "theory" and "research". All use fallacies to argue their case. All lack any scientific evidence.

It's extremely disturbing, but it mostly comes down to poor science education. Schools need to be teaching how to do science, what is actually meant by the word Theory in science, and what it means to "research".

I like the Italian approach - no school unless vaccinated.

This has made me realise that as I contracted measles and rubella in the 90s as a child, I must have never had the MMR. Will repay parents later on with bad nursing home choices.

Now paranoid about mumps. Can I just get a vaccine for that?

Yes, though I think you can just get MMR and the other bits will be redundant. Talk to your GP.

At the time it was easy to fall for the myth about the multi-vaccine. I regularly read Private Eye and it was clear that the publisher knew that the official reports were, ironically, a placebo. You might say that there's no excuse now (and I'd agree to a great extent) but have a quick scan on FB and indulge in a Google, the dependable source of all scientific information. The fact that most scientists say that it is very safe cuts little ice as they will know that what the climate scientists say is obviously wrong, despite the all-but universal consensus, as it is contradicted by important people like various presidents of the USA and moronic Australian politicians.

The day of posters on social media trumping evidenced statements from scientists is here and we are suffering for it.

The Lancet was considered a trust worthy source wasn't it? - once trust is broken it is very hard to get it back. The "white coat" effect no-longer is dependable and expecting blind trust in a consensus by insulting those that don't believe the consensus is not an effective way to bring back trust.
Blind trust in experts was never a good model and in fact never truly existed - people trusted the family GP because of the efforts made and relationships forged. That relationship with your GP is no-longer common and that is what we are suffering from.

I bet the anti-vaxxer on that cruise is *real* popular now...
