Hopefully, but Trump touched the orb. There's no going back after you've touched the orb.

I wonder how much Trump is a factor in this. Is MBS gambling that there will be no real repercussions from a chaotic and incompetent White House, especially with the US elections coming up. Despite what he's said, is Trump likely to say or do anything that shatters the illusion he's built up among his followers that he's been a master of foreign policy?

Why should the US do such a thing? ... err Trump said how much he fancies KSA and they are a VIP customer of US arms manufacturers. The missing journalist is neither a citizen of the US nor of Turkey, so there will be no interest by either country to demand the hand over of any KSA military personnel potentially involved in the case. Same story if UK demanded Russia to hand over the two suspects in the Salisbury case. Putin would show the middle finger to that and laugh it off.

CNN are reporting that he did have an Apple Watch with cellular (they verified this from a previous picture which shows the red dot on the crown) but that cellular Apple watches don't work in Turkey. Transmitting date directly to the phone via bluetooth is also highly unlikely given the distance, so the most likely scenario is the embassy was bugged.

Of course it is. As soon as it was reported that they new the exact rooms and had audio evidence it was a fair assumption it was bugged.

The Turks admit they bugged the building. Won’t say how.

Has the deadline passed for the Turkish claim that they would release the uncensored footage of the alleged murder? If that's been and gone, the Turks will start looking increasingly toothless on this.

Perhaps the Saudis will just bribe the Turks into making this go away. They don’t mind throwing money at foreign politicians.

It’s interesting that the constant bombing of innocent civilians in Yemen over several years doesn’t really have any consequences for Saudi Arabia yet one well connected dissident journalist gets murdered and all hell breaks loose. War crimes = meh, one dead journalist = OMFGZ. What a strange world we live in.

Are Iran in Yemen too stirring up trouble?
The Iranian backed Houthis are committing war crimes too but not to the extent that the Saudi led coalition are. Sure you could argue that if the Houthis had a decent Air Force they’d be doing the same but that shouldn’t mean the Saudis get off the hook.

Listening on BBC R4 the other day they were saying the Turks had stated a 3 day deadline for SA to own up or they'd make the footage public and let the world decide whether SA were guilty or not.

The reporting at the time said it was audio and video. Could make for interesting viewing. More than likely a ploy, if they have footage at all - surely releasing it would be the end of any friendly relationship between the two nations for a long, long time.

It's almost certain this bloke is dead, I'll be interested to see if any more evidence ever comes to light. There was suggestion that his body was transported to the home of the consul nearby and disposed of there, although it may have been in pieces when it left the consulate. I wonder if the Turks found bits of him in the sewers.

They did mention evidence in the sewers I think.

As Escapegoat alluded to on the previous page, there is a certain irony on the Turkish government's concern over this journalist when they lead the world in the stats for imprisonment of journalists.

Yep : KSA and Saudis are not generally very well liked by their neighbours around the Gulf.

Generally seen as corrupt rich arrogant, stupid and lazy... tolerated as they spend a lot of $$ in UAE, Bahrain etc. But not particularly liked or welcome

Also seen as total hypocrites : pious dogmatic authoritarian wahabists during the week in KSA .... we mongerihg heavy drinkers when in Bahrain for weekend .....

You have to wonder if trump in effect green lit this by sharing his hate of non partisan press with his ksa buddies and also its a reminder of
when one of those A10's launched a attack on a hotel full of journo's during the iraq assault and bush jr's wish to bomb the al jazeera hq.
So the 2 mighty nations have form.
