You think they should have rooted 'round in the bins for some used cups ?

I was being sarcastic. smile

I agree it's a non-story though.

Why go to McDonalds in the first place if you haven't got any money ?

Freeloading chancers, the lot of 'em !
I agree just after a freebie with extra cheese.
Well known as being tight gits.
Trying to bleed McDonald's dry.
I wonder if they'd provide 20 brews free of charge if me and my cyclist mates turned up at their gaff.
Isn't there a 24 hour Tesco on that site ?

Travel kettle, Kenco americano (currently on offer), big bottle of milk and sugar/ sweeteners.
Change from 20 quid and you can take all that stuff on your next job !

Just need somewhere to plug the kettle in (the big, red, shiney fire engine probably has a socket somewhere).

They're just after the easy life ! Makes me sick !

Don't Mcdonalds still operate a system where you collect six tokens from cups and then get a free one? So if they had enough for 12 they could have then got two free leaving a two cup shortfall?

edit: Just to add, a regular Tea in McDonalds costs 99p so if they had £20 and only needed 16 drinks how did they not have enough to buy everyone a brew?

Exactly.
If true just trying to dig themselves out of one big publicity black hole.
Trumpton think themselves a law unto themselves.... in general.
As has been stated stated after the Manchester Arena fiasco and Grenfell they need to tread carefully and not add to a somewhat tainted public image.

If they did walk to the McDs and want 20 drinks. How would they carry them back?

The firefighters had £20 between them.
Strange. I thoughts they ran out the door and straight into a burning building to save a maiden and then ran back to save the pets even though they didn't have to so they don't carry any money on them, obvs init.

If there were in a vehicle, there would be marginal difference in going back to Huntington or Acomb and getting drinks or cash there.
Google maps says 4 min to Mcds. 4 min to Huntington Fire Station. A total non story.

I'll also add, I really don't think it was that big an incident. Whilst it was a major one, it was a singular building, in an isolated area with few people around.
I'm not underestimating or devaluing the work that was done, but it was just a shop fire, not the twin towers.
It is in fact precisely what they are employed and trained to do. Not that I see any firefighters complaining, just others complaining on their behalf, much like this ridiculous drinks issue!

In response to the outrage displayed by some on social media, The Fire Service have now stated these will be fitted to all fire service vehicles. Just in case;

Absolutely brilliant..... sums the situation up.
Problem solved if they do that.... and have a travel kettle tea bags etc. As back up.
I have an owd travel kettle in the garage.... I'll willingly dust it off and forward it.
Then all eventualities are covered.
Water shouldn't be a problem for them. They can boil canal/ pond/ lake water.
At least all bases are now covered and they won't have to bother using shoe leather tramping to McDonald's and no one will die of dehydration.
Then again they might go for Big Macs next time and be short of wonga.
That's no problem just install another break the glass cash machine.

I've thought a bit more about the travel kettle.
Is it really required ?

A pan would do - it could be placed on the raging inferno and would boil in no time.
See, that's another few quid I've saved them.

The change from the twenty quid they had could buy some Jaffa cakes. And maybe some jammie dodgers. And Wagon wheels. (But that would be spoiling them).smile

Good thinking. You've got me thinking outside the box now on their behalf.
They could save further Wonga and shoe leather by throwing some spuds rustled from a field if in a rural area....or may have to get some cheapies from Lidl/Aldi etc... on the raging inferno next to the pan. Hey Preston jacket spuds.
Taking a step further have a freezer on board the Trumpton wagon with a leisure battery for when not mobile.
Stock it with sausages burgers rump steak etc. Cheap barbecue fannys your aunt.
Ideal time to debrief/ team build over some Scran and a brew.
Wouldn't you have thought the Water Fairies would have been able to think up these ideas and not leave it to us.

Guesswork is never a good idea.
Likewise assumptions.
My profile name could mean anything so you're way off the mark.
Unfortunately too many people appear to have sense of humour and charisma by passes.
But hey go that's life and they're the ones missing out.
I can't decide whether I prefer fly fishing or spinning.... it's a close call.

Big on going job in Truro.
Cyclist in full gear on a rooftop throwing slates etc.
In its 12th hour.
Police Fire Brigade and Ambulance in attendance.
I sincerely hope the scoff arrangements are better organised than at the recent B and M fire.
Wait the boys in blue have made a start with crisps and water.....
Fire Brigade last seen on the march to nearest McDonald's....
Unfortunately for them staff at McDonald's have spotted them and are duly locking up.
Might be another long shift for those involved.

You seem to have an axe to grind with the fire service - may I ask why?

You have to be a special kind of dumb......

Maybe they need to pay more wages - and employ staff with some common sense.
I don't think the front staff even think about possible positive PR. Most people don't think about things outside of their role or training. "Customer pays, customer gets food." is their training and they just want to get to the end of their shift with as little hassle as possible.

As a business owner, I find that even other business owners lack that simple ability to spot opportunities or get creative.

There's no guarantee they'd have got any positive PR though. If the McDonalds staff had just given them a load of free coffee / tea then would this even have made the press? Would we be hearing about it?

I think this sort of thing puts employees in an awkward position, they either give in to the demands and provide a load of free drinks and risk the wrath of their employer or they don't give away a load of the companies stock and face a PR backlash and ultimately the wrath of their employer.

If I am at a coffee shop and a nurse, Dr are buying a coffee I will always buy them one. Same if I see a cop, fireman or solider, usually a drink which is a little thank you.

Only time it went a bit wrong was when I offered to buy two squaddies a drink of coffee on the services at Donington, just as they agreed 10 more came out of the toilets. Still did it as just returning from Afghanistan they deserved it.

If I had been at the McDonalds I would have bought those guy's a drink in a heartbeat.

Where do you draw the line with the freebies?

Doctor
Nurse
Soldier
Police
Army

How about school teachers?
Bus drivers?
Posties?

What’s your criteria for treating people?
