This period in our political history will be an interesting read.

It is unlikely that many if any posters here will be alive when sufficient time has passed for an unbiased account to be written.

Well, not as Lord Bercow, by all accounts, if the Tories get back in. And I doubt he'll have a portrait hung in his honour in the Carlton Club either.

And I gather that, most hurtfully to him, he has been blackballed by the All England Tennis Club. Oh dear, never mind, as Windsor Davies used to say.

Did an MP just try to sort him out with a threat?

As one of the most principled holders of his office.

It's funny, isn't it? Those with long enough memories will remember Eurosceptics in the early 90s moaning about Betty Boothroyd being biased because she wouldn't let them abuse process to get their way either.

What's the common denominator? Oh yes, it's nasty, small-minded little gobstes like John Redwood and Bill Cash and their even less admirable band of acolytes

I know a "Randy Bender" in the US. And a "Gabe Asher" (read it out loud).
And a "Richard Head" in the UK.
Just spotted this. Randy Bender the dental surgeon who lives in Fort Collins, Colorado? If so, I met him back in 1990 when staying with one of his neighbours smile

Oh yes, so much nastier and small-minded than the man who wanted to hang Neslon Mandela and repatriate people of different skin colour to his...

I can’t see even Bercow himself believing that.

I'm sure Keith Vaz and other 'principled' expense claiming MPs would agree with you. Probably not many others outside parliament one suspects...

When Bercow gets elevated to the Lords, I will enjoy immensely the vexation caused here.

Oh I don't know, he's arrogant enough. Can't be doing with anyone who uses a thousand words when five would do and he is the worst exponent of that. Always reminds me of Leonard Sachs whose trademark when MC-ing The Good Old Days on BBC was to use ridiculously long words for comic effect.

Who's going to elevate him? The Tories won't.

I do hope Boris follows Bercows lead in breaking conventions and withholds his peerage, Now I would drink to that.
