Things you have overhead but shouldn't have...
Discussion
Have any of you overheard a conversation or been on a phone call where they thought you couldn't hear them?
Thought it might throw up some funny, sad, and everything in between stories.
I once overheard my Mother and Father when i was a child. My Mother always wanted me to follow my own path and was happy if I was happy. My father however was telling her what a disappointment I was and how I'm ruining my life. This was when I was about 12. So a but early to say that i think. Fair to say he was quite the disciplinarian. They are now divorced.
What stories do you have?

In halls at uni, a girl in the room next door to a friend was a prolific shagger. Her room and that of my friend had the heating pipes running along them so we could often hear when she was on the go.
One evening though, things were getting intense when we heard an loud cry from a man, followed by this girl's thick Scouse accent going "aaw st, are you OK? have I broken it? what;s happened?"

I used to work in whitehall and overheard quite a lot of interesting stuff to do with Emergency Preparedness and stuff like that.
It was before during and after London 2012 and associated impact assessments around stuff like terrorism, outbreaks etc.
eye opening stuff

Back in the mid 1990s mobile phones used to use analogue airwaves rather than the digital systems we all know and love now....
These TACS and later ETACS systems could be listened to on a normal scanner so when I bought myself such a device from Tandy I thought it might be interesting to take it to work with me (a local pub) and show some of the regulars.
Fast-forward to the end of the evening to see a group of about 20 people huddled around my scanner listening in something approaching awe to a (clearly very very excited) man having a very full-on conversation with one of the then ubiquitous 0898 sex line.... with the obvious ending being described by him in rather too much detail!
Quite the eye-opener that was, and a "were you there when..." topic of conversation amongst the locals for many months afterwards.

I was 14 and bro was 11, we were with mum and dad driving down to Spain. Such excitement. our first time abroad etc. Mum asked dad if he had any mints, and he said there were some in his camera case in the boot. "Oh, it's OK dad, your camera case is here on the floor next to me" says I and opened the case to be greeted by a couple of packs of Durex. "What are these?" says brother, "they don't look like mints".

My father had a role in Emergency Preparedness in the 80's and 90's. There was a book in our hallway table that detailed the processes, contact numbers, etc.I used to work in whitehall and overheard quite a lot of interesting stuff to do with Emergency Preparedness and stuff like that.

Lists of where the body bags where stored
Where the proposed mass graves were to be located
Where the JCBs were for digging the graves
Allocation of shelters
etc
Grim reading for a young teenager, at the height of the cold war.

Just before work at the nightclub (evening) I was getting things ready and topping up the bog roll in the women’s toilet. I had about ten minutes so was in no rush, when I heard a couple of female voices accompanied with the opening creak of the door.
“bks, doors must have opened early” I thought, so I locked the cubicle and stayed quiet.
Perched on the toilet like a see-no-evil monkey so I was not visible, I heard the manager’s older daughter (18) say to his younger daughter (13) “What does it say? What does it say?”
Younger daughter replied “I corrr piss on it” (corrr = Brummie/Black Country for cannot)
Older daughter “I’ll get you a pint glass”
At the time I was baffled, wondering what the fk they were doing. Then heard the words “Oh fk, I’m pregnant. What the fk do I do?”
“Who’s the dad?”
“Don’t know”
