I'm sure some will place all the blame on the parent(s), but this was a group who voluntarily turned themselves in and were subsequently arrested, per policy, so surely that has to raise questions about treatment and conditions of those detained?
Some are blaming the parents for dragging themselves across 3 countries to get to the US and claim asylum when they could have done that in Mexico and completely absolving ICE of any responsibility for the welfare of those in their care. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/dec/14/gu...

Oh, absolutely. And it may well be made up as he's just had to make a plea deal to limit his prison time so I don't imagine Trump's on his Christmas card list.

Some people sociopaths who have no concept of compassion, and seem think its fine for children to be separated from their families, imprisoned and left to die. I'm not going to argue the rights and wrongs of refugees travelling thousands of miles to reach the USA; but none of it should matter to anyone who is charged with caring for a child.

They don't is the answer to your second question.It's one of the infuriating things about the man, and one that makes it hard for his opponents to land any real punches.
How many days gold has he played, given how much he used to berate Obama for playing golf? How much has it cost so far in decamping to Mar a Lago for however many weekends?
Drain the swamp? How many family members work at the White House? How blind are his business interests compared to most Presidents?
How's that wall coming along? When is Mexico making its first payment for it?
