How many times has this been said? It never really comes to fruition.

Trump is in deep st but don't read too much into his Twitter ranting.

He's been doing that since day one.
Did you look at this?

If I were advising the Democrats, I wouldn’t push too hard to unseat Trump at this stage.
The following scenario would be a Democratic nightmare:
1) Pressure mounts on Trump.
2) He resigns due to "Ill health"
3) President Pence pardons him for anything particularly nasty.
4) Pence has nearly two years to try and build support for the next election.

Whereas the Dem house majority will reign Trump in to a far extent, and politcally it would be best to hope that Trump gets indicted / has a total meltdown / other stuff happens in say 12 months time, so it's still fresh come the next election.

Probably sensible, but I fully expect them to go for him in any way possible immediately.

Where/when did the power of Presidential pardon originate, and what was the original thinking behind it?

It’s in the constitution. But only applies to federal crimes. Hence the Trump family will likely get hit with state crimes like in NY which he can’t do anything about.

I am not sure he will resign due to ill health, he's too vain. Remember how he was "the healthiest ever" president?

..and Pence as head of the transition team is also implicated.
The thing is - when this thing hits, it will take down trump family members, senior GOP, almost all of team trump the few that are still left and those that have already left, plus I suspect some who have already plead guilty to some charges already.

With the GOP threatened and recognising that they are in deep, the NRA funding, the assistance with the obstruction etc, they'll do as much as possible to hang on (hence the vote suppression, gerrymandering, changing rules for incoming governors).

Only trump will be spared because of the fight for impeachment will probably well go to the supreme court but he will be heavily damaged. The big question is if he negotiates a deal to leave with no federal charges, he has a history of walkign away, ususlly at no cost to himself, but this time it leaves him open to state charges, of which there are many investigations. Cohens going to want him going down on those and appears to have recordings/documentation to back his testimony up.

Which brings us to this article, how prosecutors might go after trumps business rather than himself

https://news.yahoo.com/unable-indict-president-man...

Which brings us to Executive 1 & 2

Both Rocah and Sandick pointed specifically to allegations that two Trump Organization executives, referred to in charging documents as Executive 1 and Executive 2, had concocted a fraudulent scheme to pay Cohen back for his payment to Stormy Daniels. NBC News and the Wall Street Journal have reported that Executive 1 is the longtime chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, Allen Weisselberg, who was granted immunity by the Southern District in its investigation.

The identity of Executive 2 is unknown.

James Comey is appearing again today behind closed doors for a 2nd interview with the House Oversight/Judiciary Committees.
The House GOP simultaneously arguing that the Democrats must not waste time investigating Trump, whilst that the probes of Clinton’s email server and foundation must continue because it's never been seriously investigated....

Michael Flynn's business partner is being charged with acting as an agent of a foreign government and conspiracy for attempting to get Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen extradited from the United States.

Bijan Kian made his first appearance in Alexandria federal court Monday morning. According to the indictment, Kian conspired with Turkish businessman Ekim Alptekin to illegally lobby U.S. government officials and influence public opinion in the U.S. against Gulen.

Turkish businessman Ekim Alptekin is accused of directing and funding Kian and Flynn’s work, and then lying in U.S. filings about his role. He is charged with the same crimes as Kian, as well as making false statements, but he remains in Turkey.

Yup, he blames him for organising it.

Note: Flynn is person A in the indictment, the cleric is the one Flynn was accused of trying to kidnap when he couldn't be extradited

Flynn's firm was tasked with lobbying the US government to extradite Fethullah Gulen, a Turkish cleric living in Pennsylvania who Erdogan believes is responsible for planning last year's attempted coup and, more generally, fomenting dissent inside Turkey.

Alptekin paid the Flynn Intel Group over $500,000 to produce a documentary about the dangers of Gulen that he had hoped would be "a small, '60 Minutes' kind of a thing, where these conclusions are brought to the public," he told The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday. "We thought that might have a good effect."

Then there's that Op-Ed that Flynn wrote. for $500K i'd write my mother organise the coup biggrin

Someone in the DOJ wrote a defence for trump in his emoluments case
https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/5632762-Em...

"Look, whether they're trying to bribe him doesn't matter. It only matters if the payments are large enough that he's effectively bribed."

There's also a bit that It's okay for Trump to have a business with foreign government customers while in office, because early presidents....didn't check to see if they were selling tobacco from their plantations to foreign customers?

Comey is out of his 2nd interview with the House Oversight/Judiciary Committees
Currently streaming on ABC news - https://abcnews.go.com/

James Comey to reporters: "I'd rather not be talking to you all, but somebody has to stand up and speak for the FBI and the rule of law, and I hope there's a whole lot more somebodies out there than just me."

"So another day of Hillary Clinton's emails and the Steele dossier. This while the President of the United States is is lying about the FBI, attacking the FBI, and attacking the rule of law in this country. How does that make any sense at all?"

"Republicans used to understand that the actions of a president matter, the words of a president matter, the rule of law matters and the truth matters. Where are those Republicans today? At some point, someone has to stand up."

James Comey: "This is the President of the United States calling a witness who is cooperating with his own Justice Department a 'rat.' Say that again to yourself at home and remind yourself where we have ended up."
