Manaforts due back in court on Friday, but didn't want to attend. He wanted to just send his lawyers but the judge has said he's got to be there

A federal judge has ordered Paul Manafort to appear in court Friday morning to address Robert Mueller’s charges that the former Trump campaign chairman lied during grand jury testimony and in cooperation sessions with the special counsel.

U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson issued a one-paragraph order Wednesday denying the longtime GOP operative’s request that he remain in his Alexandria, Va., jail cell while his attorneys appear on his behalf for the hearing.

“Given the number of court appearances defendant has been permitted to waive, the significance of the issues at stake, and the fact that his being available to consult with counsel may reduce the likelihood that the defense position with respect to the issues discussed will change after the hearing, defendant's motion is denied,” Jackson wrote.

No honour amongst thieves? We know Kushna and Ivanka have constantly undermined staff members, now it seems KellyAnne Conway was doing the same, according to Cliff Simms book.

Cliff Sims says that he once watched Kellyanne Conway iMessage no fewer than a half-dozen reporters over the course of 20 minutes to, among other things, bash Kushner, Priebus, Bannon, and Spicer. All by name.

"It became hard to look long at her without getting the sense that she was a cartoon villain brought to life. Her agenda ... became more and more transparent. Once you figured that out, everything about her seemed so calculated."

Pelosi's response on twitter
Mr. President, I hope by saying “near future” you mean you will support the House-passed package to #EndTheShutdown that the Senate will vote on tomorrow. Please accept this proposal so we can re-open government, repay our federal workers and then negotiate our differences.

meanwhile, Tim Kaine again asked for consent to take up a House-passed bill that would fund every agency and department impacted by the shutdown except DHS, but McConnell objected again.

It's the 4th time McConnell has blocked a bill to reopen most of government.
https://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/426668-mcco...

Democrats have been coming to the floor on a near-daily basis while the Senate is in session to try to bring up the House package, even though the GOP leader has said he will not allow them to come to the Senate floor.

Which again prompts the question of what McConnell is playing at. He's been very good at playing the odds to keep himself in power but he's got to see this is damaging the GOP.

There are 12 Democratic seats and 22 Republican seats up for election in 2020
https://ballotpedia.org/United_States_Senate_elect...

They stand a good chance of losing several, flipping the senate back to the dems, ousting McConnell. So is this all short term ignoring everything else?
The Dems can't let a shutdown be used as a weapon. If they give in now - what next, Medicare, Immigration,

WH Counsel Pat Cippolone? Have I accidentally tuned into an episode of The Sopranos?
According to a recent Wikipedia update (so could be rubbish), which high school do you think he graduated from? Cipollone is a Catholic and a graduate of Covington Catholic High School.

Do you think someone in his office that actually knows and understands the law had to explain to him, very slowly and possibly with diagrams, that he wouldn't be able to avoid arrest just because he's the President?

I have to assume that the Secret Service wouldn't have let him walk into that situation anyway - their job (one that they are currently not being paid for) is to protect him from harm and being arrested for federal crime would probably fall into that purview.

I finally watched Wind River last night (great film BTW) and, apropos nothing, it genuinely had me wondering whether Trump would be rooting for the (rapey, racist) bad guys if he watched it. What a world we live in!

If Trump or a member of his close family were ever to do jail time would they still have secret service protection?

Republican Sen. Cory Gardner's spokesman said that he intends to vote for a clean funding bill that would open the government with *no* increased border-security funding attached.

With the Dems in charge the House is making progress. Deutsche Bank has received an inquiry from the House Financial Services and Intelligence Committees on the lender's ties to Trump.

https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-trump-deutsche-b...

Just as Deutsch bank reportedly has evidence of “suspicious transactions” related to Jared Kushner’s family accounts and is willing to hand the information over to Russia probe special counsel Robert Mueller.
https://www.newsweek.com/deutsche-bank-willing-rep...

How bad does that have to be when a bank that was money laundering for the russians, giving trump huge loans, finds your transactions suspicious biggrin
