Going by some exchanges on another trump replated thread, many indeed cannot see him for what he is.

It's amazing.
Maybe WE are not seeing him for what he really is???

ps - He is a total embarrassment of a human being in my view but it is just MY opinion/view!!

Trump on Twitter: https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1123263...

Trump said:
We have 1,800 ISIS Prisoners taken hostage in our final battles to destroy 100% of the Caliphate in Syria. Decisions are now being made as to what to do with these dangerous prisoners... ...European countries are not helping at all, even though this was very much done for their benefit. They are refusing to take back prisoners from their specific countries. Not good!
This doesn't even touch the sides of the problems brewing in Syria. Al Hol refugee camp holds over 70,000 people from ISIS controlled territory who are the menatlist of the mental, the people from Syria and around the world who wanted to live in a caliphate many of whom still try and live by the ideals of daesh. Most of the occupants are women and children.

No one wants these people and all governments be that in Europe, Russia, China or wherever are resisting attempts to repatriate citizens from Al Hol, with the notable exception of Iraq who have been happy to take in any males who can credibly said to have fought for ISIS, primarily so they can give them 5 minutes in front of a judge before swinging them from a rope.

I don't know what the answer is or where Trump got this 1,800 number from.

Being wary of tweets and memes that play to my biases I decided to google this and it appears there may be more to it. Last year it was won by a lady called Mandy Manning who can't have held a particularly high opinion of Trump because she turned up prepared:

article said:
In May 2018, Manning gave letters from her immigrant and refugee students to Trump. She also wore to the award ceremony a badge that said “Trans Equality Now,” which was a slap at a president whose administration has promoted policies limiting some rights of transgender Americans. It was just one of a handful of pins she wore promoting equality for all.
The chap who's won it this year has dedicated his life to educating prisoners, particularly juveniles in detention. I imagine he's got some well informed opinions about problems facing the America which exists on planet Earth that may not fit easily in to the fantasy world Trump lives in.

So Trump decides not to hand out national award because last year someone at the award ceremony wore a badge he didn't like and gave him letters (which i'll wager he never read) that were critical of his policies? That strikes me as incredibly petty and narcissistic of him.

It's embarrassing, how can American people think he is an appropriate / legitimate leader?
His supporters say he's the only president who fulfils election promises. They don't seem to see beyond this.

Haha. Clearly what they've done is put that tweet out, waited for DJT to retweet it and then changed their screen name to F*** Donald Trump.
That's then how it would show up thereafter. It's genius.

One for TP, have you any further input on this? What are the russians doing in Venezuela and are the US and Russia squabbling over oil again, based on Venezuela still has the world’s largest proven oil reserves?

With Russia, I think it's less about the economic benefits (Russia itself is not lacking in oil) and more about maintaining an outpost in the western hemisphere. They can't really rely on any other nation that close to the US to act as a base for Russian troops and by extension, Russian interests. So the $9bn owed is considered worth it. I'll almost guarantee that the debt will increase, which will be acceptable to Russia as it will make Venezuela beholden to Russia (China is doing the same with many Pacific Island nations... Cheap Chinese loans seem great, until China comes collecting).

I think the big risk for Russia is that the left gets overthrown in Venezuela, not simply Guaido, people forget he's a Socialist too (and a proper one at that, not a European style Social Democrat). I can see Russia stepping in before allowing that to happen.

Sorry for getting too off topic, but I was speaking to a Venezuelan a few weeks back in Colombia (Anyone with any kind of usable skill or profession got out years ago, long before the border at Cucuta was closed) and they are saying Juan Guaido is just as bad as Maduro.
South America isn't an area I know much about so can't offer insight in to the regional politics. Your guess is as good as mine regarding what the advisors are actually advising on.

From Russia's perspective I'd agree with captain cynic that it's not really about the $6Bn owed to Russia and more about having a base and influence in the Americas. Also of relevance is that Venezuela is a major OPEC member and that Russia has of late been acting as an unofficial OPEC member by coordinating their output, so Venezuela is useful for the Russians as a voice within OPEC.

There's also the sanctions but that's part of a wider issue so I'll put that in another post.

From an American perspective I doubt oil is figuring heavily in their calculations, more that this ststorm started flailing around their back yard and they don't have much option but to deal with it.

If only he put as much effort in on running the country.
Nope this will be the next 18 months as he tries to obstruct further and spends his day tweeting about how great he is and why he should be president for life. Nothing will get done

More obstruction?

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has reportedly indicated that he's willing to testify before Congress about his report, but the Department of Justice has been unwilling to set a date for it to happen.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/robert-muellers-will...
Am I right in thinking that the summary (summaries?) written by Mueller and his team have yet to be made public?

I do hope Mueller gets to testify publicly, could make some interesting viewing.

It's fascinating just how close the worldviews actually are when you dig into them. What many in the US seem to want is what I've heard described as a "White Caliphate" - defined gender roles, absolutist interpretations of revealed truth, freedom to oppress those they view as outside their rules (e.g. homosexuals), a criminal justice system with no space for notions of reform and the notion everything they are doing is the will of God. Really does have the potential to get messy.

There's something in the psyche of America that seems to need, even want a permanent enemy, be it communists, Muslims, Satan, the "Deep State", mainstream media, "leftists", Mexicans, socialism or anal probing extraterrestrials. Something is baked into the mythology of the place that because it's the best, absolutely everyone else must be out to get it. Every time an enemy recedes, a new one seems to be generated to take its place. It's fascinating, but given that level of paranoia clearly exists within the corridors of power, also terrifying. They have a president holding rallies and making claims (doctors executing babies!) that would make an African dictator or Central Asian strongman blush, yet it now feels normal. It's bonkers.

WSJ are also reporting that the Foxconn deal in Wisconsin that Trump personally pushed for has not delivered anything like the investment the company promised, WSJ reports. At last year's end, Foxconn had only spent 1% of its pledged investment and created fewer than 200 jobs.
