trumps tweeting

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump

Why didn’t President Obama do something about Russia in September (before November Election) when told by the FBI? He did NOTHING, and had no intention of doing anything!

5:28 AM - 1 May 2019

Perhaps Obama didn't do anything because Mitch McConnell refused to sign up to anything.

When Sen. Mitch McConnell was told by then–CIA Director John Brennan before the 2016 election that Vladimir Putin and Russia were attempting to interfere with the goal of assisting Donald Trump, McConnell’s response took him aback, according to Greg Miller, a Washington Post reporter who has just released a book about Putin, Trump, and the election. The majority leader said he wouldn’t sign on to any condemnation of Russia’s actions and that if the administration went public with the intelligence, McConnell would in turn call out Brennan as a partisan intervening on behalf of Hillary Clinton, Miller colorfully revealed in a CNN interview Tuesday.

From:
https://amp.slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/10/gr...

And why wouldn't he refuse. One Russian oligarch donated $3.5M to Mitch's PAC in 2016 & another is about to invest $200M in a taxpayer-backed $1.7B aluminum rolling mill in his state.

And the announcement Obama's administration ultimately made had the misfortune of being delivered on the same day as the Access Hollywood tape, which led to a Wikileaks dump. The announcement was buried.

Interesting report on trumps staff meeting at mar-a-lago and the bar bill.

https://www.propublica.org/article/trump-inc-podca...

This bit though:
At some point later that evening, a group repaired to Mar-a-Lago’s Library Bar, a wood-paneled study with a portrait of Trump in tennis whites (titled “The Visionary”) hanging nearby. The group asked the bartender to leave the room so it “could speak confidentially,” according to an email written by Mar-a-Lago’s catering director, Brooke Watson.

Did they know he was one of trumps illegal staff?

The you've the profiteering
The premium liquor costs are only the beginning of government spending at Mar-a-Lago that emerges in hundreds of pages of receipts and email correspondence between Trump Organization employees and staffers for the State Department, which oversees presidential diplomatic travel and works with the Secret Service and White House. The emails show that the president’s company refused to agree to what was essentially a bulk-purchase agreement with the federal government, and that it charged the maximum allowable federal rate for hotel rooms.

Barr is in front of the senate.
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/dems-gri...

NBC have got Muellers full letter in which he said
"The summary letter ... did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance of the Office's work and conclusions."
Mueller explicitly wrote to Barr (seeming to contradict Barr's statements): "...the enclosed documents are in a form that can be released to the public consistent with legal requirements and Department policies. I am requesting that you provide these materials to Congress."

Barr just told the Senate that he told Mueller that he wasn't interested in putting out summaries.

It'll be interesting ti see the summaries at the moment but on the NBC commentary the presenters are continuously breaking in to point out where Barr is lying

Live at the moment
https://www.c-span.org/event/?459922/attorney-gene...

Barr is going to anger trump: "No, I didn't exonerate. I said that we did not believe that there was sufficient evidence to establish an obstruction offense, which is the job of the Justice Department."

Mazie Hirono to Barr: "The American people know that you are no different from Rudy Giuliani or Kellyanne Conway or any of the other people who sacrificed their once decent reputation for the grifter and liar who sits in the Oval Office."

Kamala Harris asks Barr if Trump or anyone at the WH has asked or suggested that he open an investigation into anyone.
Barr says he's trying to grapple with the word suggest. He says he wouldn't say anyone has asked.
Harris wonders: Hinted? Inferred?
Barr says he doesn't know.

Handy answer

Senator Mazie Hirono
@maziehirono

AG Barr is no different than the other people who have sacrificed their once-decent reputation for @realDonaldTrump. AG Barr has chosen to be the President’s lawyer and side with him over the interests of the American people. America deserves better than AG Barr. He must resign.

Barr hasn't read the report!!

Barr previously testified that the Russia investigation was without basis.
Senator Durbin is questioning him and Barr said he doesn’t know what the referral from the Australian government that launched the investigation said. Yet this is summarised on page 89 and in footnote 465 of Volume I of the report.

He's also asked who the polling data was given too
The Mueller Report refers 15+ times to the Trump campaign sharing polling data with a Kremlin-linked Russian, beginning on page 7 of the Executive Summary.

It refers to documentary evidence and testimony from Trump Deputy Campaign Chair Rick Gates.

Barr's response is shocking.

Harris ripped him apart too
Harris: Has the President or anyone at the White House ever asked or suggested that you open an investigation of anyone?
BARR: Um, I wouldn’t, I wouldn’t –
HARRIS: Yes or no
BARR: Could you repeat that question? ..
BARR: Yeah but I’m trying to grapple with the word “suggest. They have not asked me to open an investigation..."

Harris then calls for Barrs resignation

Barr says that someone took notes of his call with Mueller. Blumenthal asks to see the notes. Barr says no. "Why should you have them?"

Former DOJ official Matt Miller: "The inappropriate conversations between the Justice Department and the White House that we know were taking place when Jeff Sessions was the attorney general and when Matthew Whitaker was the attorney general have not stopped.

Barrjust said If the president feels a proceeding is unfounded, "the president does not have to sit there constitutionally and allow it to run its course. The president could terminate the proceeding and it would not be a corrupt intent because he was being falsely accused."

AG Barr now admits under questioning from Sen Durbin that he had already been working on decision saying Trump did not commit obstruction before receiving the Mueller report or having anyone look at it.

Kamala Harris got Attorney General William Barr to admit under oath that he cleared Trump of criminal wrongdoing (after Mueller didn’t) without reviewing any of the actual evidence.

This will be the headlines!

and it's over, with Barr stonewalling. Blumenthal finished by trying to conduct basic oversight of Barr's job performance

Several calls from attendees for Barr to resign. Be interesting to see the media reports but I'd say he's very damaged goods after that poor performance.

He can't actually believe that to be true???

He is supposed to be the top lawyer in the United States, correct?

Senator Richard Blumenthal asked William Barr of the fourteen ongoing federal criminal cases spun off from the Mueller investigation, twelve of which are still under wraps from the public, has Barr discussed any of these cases with the White House?

Barr took a long flustered pause before only being willing to say that he hadn’t had any “substantive conversations” with the White House about these cases.

So Barrs fluffed that, showing that he has discussed these cases with trump, but didnt want to say so because that would be an admission that he and the Trump regime are still conspiring to obstruct justice. Barr didn’t want to claim that the conversations hadn’t taken place at all, because that could get him accused for perjury.

trying to be slippery but it's obvious whats going on

So if I decide to run for office in the future, in the meantime I can break the law and do exactly as I fking please, because 'the people can decide' with their votes.

Righto.

Also, Nadler said to tv cameras just before the hearing that an agreement has been reached for Robert Mueller to publicly testify before Congress sometime this month.

So Mueller wrote a letter disagreeing with Barrs summary... could be very interesting.

This is a damage control operation on behalf of the president of the United States. This is not the attorney general of the United States.”
