DOJ has announced Barr will not be turning up to Congress for a second day of testimony.

As I saw earlier, it's rapidly becoming a case of the Dems either going all in on attack with impeachment proceedings etc, or all in on capitulation.

On top of that, Jerry Nadler says that the Department of Justice has told him that they will not comply with the Judiciary Committee's subpoena for the full, unredacted Mueller report

This is now open obstruction and the House needs to use everything in their powers to control an administration that thinks its above the law. That starts with holding Barr in contempt

Even Fox News...
Chris Wallace: Some opinion people who appear on this network, who may be pushing a political agenda. But, you know, we have to deal in facts. And the fact is that this letter from the special counsel … was a clear indication that the [special counsel] was upset, very upset

Ruth Maddow is investigating if Barr shut down Mueller's probe in March, remembering that Matt Schlapp, spouse of a top Trump aide, tweeted that he knew before Barr's confirmation that when Barr became AG he was going to end the probe. It was part of the deal of him being put forward.

The Democrats cannot let this go.

If they do, they are just as complicit IMO.

It's no surprise that Barr isn't going to turn up today, yesterday was disastrous for him, but then trump only has the best people....
Right now it's obvious in his confirmation hearing and the other hearings that Barr has opened himself to perjury and obstruction charges.

Senator Kamala Harris managed to get Barr to directly admit that he hadn’t reviewed the underlying evidence in the Mueller probe before he made a decision that Trump didn’t commit obstruction of justice.

Nadler has announced to the television cameras that he and the House Judiciary Committee will go ahead and hold their hearing about the Mueller report tomorrow, even if Barr doesn't show, so further building public opinion about trump admin illegalities.

The other person who it was disaterous for was Lyndsey Graham, who admitted he hadn't read all the Mueller report, despite being chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee who were hearing from Barr yesterday

Thinking about this. We know Mueller’s grand jury is still running, thats only there is there are still indictments to come. Muellers Supreme Court fight against a foreign government-owned mystery company is still ongoing and that can't be long to be completed. There's also evidence that Muellers report was rushed, because of inaccuracies in late testimony, such as Guiliani admitting the trump tower moscow deal ran through past election day, when the mueller report still says summer of 2016 - based on early lies to his investigators.

Ruth Maddow made it sound like she has specific inside information about how Barr rapidly shut down Mueller and his team once he was appointed, which would explain the rushed report, details missing, possibly even Rosensteins resignation.

Comey has written an op-ed in NY times on how the cult of trump pulls in people, how trump turns decent people into advocates for him, how it ruins them

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/01/opinion/william...

Barr is just one example of many “accomplished people lacking inner strength” who “can’t resist the compromises necessary to survive this president.” Comey offers insight into the process based on his time working with Trump and longer time watching Trump handle other people.

As Comey puts it, “Trump eats your soul in small bites.”

So from what I can work out the following called for Barr's resignation following his testimony yesterday.
Ted Lieu, Adam Schiff, Chris Van Hollen, Maxine Waters, Mazie Hirono, Julian Castro, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand, Corey Booker, Beto O’Rourke, and Elizabeth Warren.

Senator Dick Durbin makes a very valid point: “I’m gravely concerned that the fourteen criminal referrals from Special Counsel Mueller related to the investigation are under the supervision and control of AG Barr. He’s virtually disqualified himself to be the kind of person we can expect to stand back and make sure justice is served.”

There are some very bizarre marriages in and around the White House, where spouses seem happy to stab their (Trump employed) partner in the back. Conway and her husband being the main one. All very weird.

Watched quite a few clips on twitter last night and while the Dems who its clear do'nt like Trump at least tried to ask questions and understand why there are huge differences between what Barr has decided in terms of summary and actions vs the actual information in the report. The GOP decided that in actual fact its all Hillary's fault, and that she is the guilty one.

I know there is always going to be partisan splits, but when it comes down to national security and the fact around that a president has taken help from a foreign government and obstructed justice they don't seem to be bothered. As far as they are concerned he is in the clear.

Just shows what power does to people.

On top of that, the NY Times are reporting that Giuliani is seeking information from Ukrainian officials that he intended to use to undermine the Mueller report and to try to damage Biden. Also that Giuliani briefed trump on the whole thing, both of who are now suggesting the DOJ should investigate

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/01/us/politics/bid...

Giuliani’s involvement raises questions about whether Mr. Trump is endorsing an effort to push a foreign government to proceed with a case that could hurt a political opponent at home.

Mr. Giuliani has discussed the Burisma investigation, and its intersection with the Bidens, with the ousted Ukrainian prosecutor general and the current prosecutor. He met with the current prosecutor multiple times in New York this year. The current prosecutor general later told associates that, during one of the meetings, Mr. Giuliani called Mr. Trump excitedly to brief him on his findings, according to people familiar with the conversations.

The papers have ripped Barr apart

In saying that Barr “compromised the American public’s ability to believe that he is a purveyor of justice,” Harris pinpointed a very big and glaring problem with him. But there’s no indication that Barr himself even sees it as a problem.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/05/01...

Barr has lit his reputation on fire, and he just added more fuel during his Wednesday testimony before a Senate panel.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/william-ba...

“The evidence was sort of staring us in the face that he got picked to land the plane for the president, and he did," said one former Justice Department official.
https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/william-bar...

Trump now has an attorney general, like a human block of granite, who sees few limits on presidential power and is willing to obfuscate and execute blocking movements on his behalf.
https://us.cnn.com/2019/05/02/politics/donald-trum...

Basically after trying Sessions, Whitaker, trump now has Barr to do exactly what he wanted, block and obstruct any investigation of trumps illegalities

I love your work Byker, as said before, but just wanted to point out its Rachel Maddow, not Ruth. I know this because my GF tells me how much she can't stand her whenever she appears on TV (coincidentally also true for Chris Cuomo, who appears on CNN at the same time)!

Precedent has been set.

The party in power in the US will walk roughshod over the law or even tradition/political norms if it’s someone on their own side

Quite a crap prospect but that’s where they are.

I don’t doubt the democrats would do the same if they had a slightly mental person in office and didn’t want to agree to impeach.

This is a new age of America.

I like Rachel Maddow - although she does take forever to get to the point.

This has been my biggest concern all along, even if they impeach or make him a single term president. All pre-existing norms are now gone and no-one will be willing to put them back given how long they took to establish in the first place.

The US should go all-in and get rid of government and run everything by corporations. 'Hostile takeover' could be the new 'war'.
