He has inherited the Napoleon complex.
He is an undeserving recipient. Much maligned as Napoleon might be, he did, nonetheless, risk and achieve a great deal in his time.

This little grub on the other hand...

At least the government supported brutality in putting down dissent will have impressed the Chinese leader...
It's a fair point, he is after all an expert on the fragility of 73 year old women, having been married to one a few years back, (now in her 80s!)

In Poland they still think fondly of Napoleon - had a few amusing discussions on the Napoleonic era with Polish friends.

I had an Austrian extolling the virtues of the Napoleonic Code to me on the weekend.

Has this died out completely now as a mass protest?

Presume just the usual trouble makers involved?

Just the usual troublemakers now. Battered pensioners who are mocked by Macron, working class outside of Paris who are desperate to have their voices heard. Army on the streets with authorisation to open fire on civilians, chemical weapons cleared for use on French citizens... things are hunky-dory.

hehe

I'm lovin' the 'has this died out' tosh.

Look! Over there! A minky on a guillotine!

The BBC and The Guardian under-reporting something doesn't mean it's not happening. Under-reporting doesn't mean not reporting btw.

silly

To be fair, he’s not wrong if France isn’t going to collapse in on itself.

What he misses is that France is essentially ungovernable.

I drove out to our tech centre today 100k NW of Paris. Lots of little groups of protesters at roundabouts in each of the towns on route. So I would say still lots of root level support and quiet protest as opposed to the extreme infiltration of trouble makers every saturday in Paris

hehe

He's not governing an ungovernable country with a certain lack of éclat.

I'm not sure they need the army, we were in Paris a couple of weeks ago when the vests came bowling across the Seine, the gendarmes waiting to "greet" them were monsters all 6' plus tall and about the same wide with full body armour, I wouldn't want to upset them!

They were probably C.R.S., Compagnies Républicaines de Sécurité,
they do not f**k about, they eat gendarmes for petit dejeuner!
I once asked two of them a question, (in French), by the Quai d’Orsay.
One said, “Foutre le camp!” (F**k off!), I thanked him, and complied.

Even the police don't mess about. I can remember many many years ago trying to cross the road to get into the coach taking us back to the hotel on the Saturday night of the Le Mans 24hr. There was a Gendarme up the road, supposedly directing/stopping traffic, but he was making a right pigs arse of it, so I stopped traffic to let our group cross. Le Plod got proper upset and stormed down the road and punched me. It was a poor effort, but nonetheless persuaded me to GTFO. hehe

No no no. They aren’t protesting, their cars have broken down. Besides there’s only 5 of them, it’s the camera angle that’s deceiving.

(Think that covers the denial)
