Trying to get my layering sorted and to be honest my coat has seen better days. Not to mention I want to use the jacket for the daily grind also.

I'm after a Symond/Rab type down jacket. But I'm a cheap git and £100 max.

Mountain warehouse / Trespass etc any good?

Thanks

EDIT:

Bought this

Peter Storm Coastal Down. Ridiculous value at £40 currently.

Mine has been great & will work really well with a layering system.

Mountain makes some quite good gear and seems to have been overlooked by most.

It was delivered yesterday.

Great quality, robust and love the blue colour. Was at Wolves v Bournemouth footy yesterday and with the rain and sleet it was the dogs danglies. The hood on the jacket was essential.

I've got one of those but without the hood - which i regret in weather like yesterday- I was being cheap/stingy it was in a sale at silly price.

My daughter borrowed it the other day (it swamps her but she'd left her coat at home) and said it felt like wearing a duvet.

I think mountain equipment, outdoor research etc do great stuff but haven't hit the 'trendy' thing so they're very good value compared to north face/rab/etc.

For stuff like this I'd always look at rock + run, bananafingers etc for end of line stuff in their sale sections.

Blimey - that's a blast from the past! I've got a Mountain Equipment duvet coat which I bought in the late '70's when I spent a lot of time doing stupid things in Scotland, Greenland and even further afield. Great piece of kit and still going strong.

Yes, I've a Mountain Equipment "Fitzroy Super" jacket that I've used for decades.

Great stuff.
