It isn't so much the message that gets me, it's the lack of an equal message against female bullying of other females and males.

It would imply that all those negative attributes are absolutely rife everywhere, when the reality is very different. Most men live by the values endorsed by the advert with, I would imagine, only a small minority that don't.

It's the relentless preaching and making men all seem worthless and tarred with the same brush recently that gets most of our backs up.

There goes Gillette from the shopping list hehe

Why on earth would I want a side of identity politics with my shaving equipment?

Doesn't bother me at all. They're fair points. On a different but related tangent, see also the work these people are doing.

I don’t mind the advert.

Reactionaries are always perplexed at the double standard though, you won’t see Dove do an advert with some snarky office chicks sneering at a colleague calling out female on female bullying (which is rife in school and workplace in my experience).

I agree with the concept of the ad and the message, but we won’t be seeing the female equivalent.
Very well put.

It's not so much the agenda of the advert that annoys me or winds me up, its the fact its fking st.

Its not clever, its not funny, its not telling you about the product, its instantly forgettable. Its jumping on the bandwagon pish.

I've been a slave to the Gillette corporation for far too long. I'm off to wilkinson sword, not because of this advert but because their fking ridiculously expensive.

Great free publicity

But there are men who will boycott any film/company with an anti-male agenda so a mixed bag really. Depends on the target consumer really, going "woke" was a big mistake in Marvel comics as one example.

Not really fair, there's some ridiculous straw manning of 'masculine men' (whatever they are) as slathering, violent neanderthals that can barely keep their base desires in check. You can sum up the whole advert with the simple philosophy "don't be a to people".

Agree with the message, not sure why it's being told by a razor company. Makes it look like a sleazy cash in rather than a solid social message.

I doubt we'll see any major boycott. People who are offended by the ad are too few in number, poorly organised and extremist for them to worry about... Mostly they are just angry old farts on internet forums who will forget what they're angry about as soon as the Daily Mail tells them to be angry about something else. Meanwhile, Gillette are getting their name mentioned a lot by the press. For them, all publicity is good publicity.

Its not like Gillette are dependent on a fickle or niche market, they're practically a monopolist in the razor arena and not like men are going to stop shaving.

It’s probably not as uncommon as you think. It’s estimated that 1/5 women will experience rape or a serious sexual assault in their life. 62% of female students experience sexual violence, and sexual harassment in the workplace affects over half of uk women.

The flip side of that is that the idea that ‘it’s only a small minority’ isn’t really true. It is a widespread issue.

I think Gillette should be applauded for doing it, and I’m sure they’ll have done their cost-benefit analysis on the campaign.

Stupid advert created by stupid people.

I am not about to go chuck all my shaving stuff in the bin over it, nor change brand, but i do think that they have got it all very, very wrong.

They could so easily have made a very similar ad with the same message but portrayed much better and making it clear that the stand should be made against all those male and female who abuse, bully, denigrate others.

Instead they have shown massive lack of forethought and pissed millions off, even if only a handful will actually change their buying habits.

I think you need to spend more time on Youtube. This advert will no doubt have a lot of negative criticism on channels with hundreds of thousands of subscribers, many of them on the look out to be outraged by this sort of cr*p.

I've seen it. I really couldn't have been less bothered. Honestly cant see what you're so hot under the collar about.

I think you're seriously overestimating the number of people who care. As I've said, their too erratic, too poorly organised and far too few in number to make any kind of difference.

There's no real outrage here, any faux outrage will be forgotten before the 2 week news cycle is through and the Daily Mail/Express has told all the faux outraged what else their supposed to be falsely outraged at next.

Well they said they would boycott future Star Wars movies as a result of the TLJ and then Solo underperformed expectations by a couple of hundred million $, so I wouldn't necessarily say it is a few. Nor is it crusty old men as most of the channels in question have young male presenters, as is their subscriber base I would imagine.

We are in a world where many people spend longer on YouTube than they do on traditional TV and many cluster with similar folks to themselves.
