I’m sure that’s what the Royalists believe, but please let’s not let facts get in the way. This hugely privileged old fart has led a very simple existence at the tax payers expense.
There is a fantastic novel by Sue Townsend called the 'Queen and I' where a Republican party wins the 1992 election and the royal family have their royal status revoked and are forced to live on a council estate.

I think you might enjoy it!

Have we had the 'it's all to distract attention from Brexit' theory yet?

well, the Royal Family contribute several times what they cost to the national pot.
so a "company car" is fine by me.
remove them on principle, i understand that, but which public services will you cut?
Impossible to prove what the real contribution is, especially considering the full range of handouts. It's more a political and/or moral debate. Which services would you think would be affected after selling the billions or real estate off?

Claiming you couldn't see because of the sun is in no way mitigating circumstances, it's a line for the prosecution not the defense. If you can't see, you don't proceed, simple as.

No, those who research this conclude the balance is by a factor.

real estate is part of the balance sheet. are you suggesting we sell it? who's going to buy it?

One would hope that would be the case but sadly it isn't

Google 'driver blinded sun killed court' to see the litany of cases were it's successfully used as a defence.

Really? That blows my mind, not least at the realisation of my naivety, let alone how wrong that obviously is.

The figures can bed fudged by both sides.

What I suggest is a referendum. It's a democracy thing.

It's nice to know that if I ever get caught not wearing my seat belt, the police will just give me some 'friendly words of advice', and not points and a fine. Especially if I had had a road traffic collision two days before.

Spot on, it's ridiculous. Any member of the public and they'd have a fine at a minimum.

Looking at the recent photos/ TV reports of Prince Philip he's clearly not in the best of health.

Most people would regard the collision as a clear sign to give up driving.

It's not like he's going to be left housebound and hasn't got staff to ferry him about.

It just smacks of someone in denial/ too arrogant/ too stubborn to see sense.

If there is another incident involving The Duke then I would think some serious questions will need to be asked.

A fine is the maximum as well. Anyway don't you want them to be out and about after 'real' criminals...?

Shows the arrogance of the man; involved in a rather nasty looking crash, which ended up with his car on its side, blaming the sun (which appears is likely not that truthful) and if he is blaming the sun then likely the accident was his fault, next day he is straight back out in a car and with no seatbelt.

One would have thought that a man of his prominence would have laid a bit low for at least a few days.

It's about this me the dozy old had his licence taken away. Of course that won't happen, even if something similar happens again
Of course we all know what would happen if this involved any other 98 year old don't we?
