Direct action, that’s what I like.

BTW what happened,in that case a few months ago, similar, where someone wrecked a load of brand new bungalows?

The criminal damage trial starts in a couple of weeks.

Was linked to this on fb, no one likes being ripped off (apparently the contractor underpaid him by £600) but he's going to be serving time over this, rightly so.

He'll be regretting that now. Even if he was owed £600, it won't be Travelodge who owed it, and he won't be getting it from anyone now.

Absolute moron who could easily have killed someone and hopefully no-one will give him a job now and he'll go to prison and get a whopping fine. Definitely worth it over £600 though, genius.

Amazed at how many other idiots on Facebook etc are applauding and congratulating him on ruin his life. What a 'lad'.

You can't argue with it being reckless, but at the same time so many of these firms just dont pay or underpay their blokes.

You end up trapped, if you leave you won't be getting paid because you 'let them down' if you stay the debt just gets bigger.

I had it many years ago, i was earning a grand a week, they deduct tax, then 5% retention. Then you've got to pay to get to London every day. They were meant to pay 2 weeks money every 2 weeks, what happened was they paid the two weeks money every 5 or 6 weeks. I ended up in debt which took some time to sort out. I learnt the lesson of never ever spend this weeks money! Not until you've got a fair bit saved up as in the trade you never know what's going to happen.

The firms are so blasé, telling lies that its gone in when it hasn't, your invoice wasn't received or just plain ignoring you. It can be for thousands of pounds. They simply do not give a fk if your going to lose your home, thats your problem.

Even worse is if your supplying materials as well, you can end up basically paying to do their job then not getting paid for it. Its bang out of order.

However it is a bit of an over reaction for £600 but maybe he was pushed over the edge. He's certainly gong to prison for that little outburst.

Dare I say it but I wouldn't be surprised if those applauding him are also the sort who are living week to week and who's lives would be up st creek if they were to miss a weeks pay. They seem to have a different concept as to what's justified in these type of situations.

I've worked in construction for 20yrs and see it on site every week. I've seen people kick off and throw all sorts of threats about on site because they have been paid an hour or two less by mistake one week. Unfortunately, while construction attracts some exceptionally talented people is also attracts the dregs of society.

yes

Seems 50% of blokes on site these days need the money for online gambling during their break!

Lad. Hope it costs that company several orders of magnitude more than £600 to rectify. Maybe next time they'll think twice about not paying their workers on time.

It'll turn out that he worked for one subcontractor who will just phoenix to avoid their costs for his actions. Travelodge will hold their main contractor to account to pay them for every day the hotel is now late opening, and as a result all the other innocent subcontractors who completed their work on time and to satisfaction will suffer. Not to mention the cost to them all of time spent dealing with the resultant HSE investigation and their insurers and the various criminal court cases against the moron.

Legend. Shame he wasnt a bit smarter about when he done it though. If everyone who tried to bump workers out their hard earned received this level of retribution the world would be a more honest and better place.

Unless the contractor magically goes bankrupt, why not? Shouldn't his wages and the damage be separate matters?
