I've also never yet seen a Metrobus that's even half full... white elephant indeed.
Do i recall you are on the east side?

I'm going to disagree with you a bit here. The Metrobus (especially from the south west) does seem to have improved matters - and it may well get better again when they finally finish the temple meads area

Buses through Winterstoke road at rush hour run every 10 minutes and are absolutely rammed

The problem from the east side is/was the lack of agreement on the location of a P&R
yes

I come along the ring road from Oldland Common to Aztec West every morning, and very rarely find myself on t'other side of town. You might have a point there as there is no P & R on our side....

We’ve two offices in the centre and they have continued business as usual. Few people got caught up on the day the M32 was blocked for about 30 minutes, which was a step too far.

It’s unfair to blame the decline of the city centre and the galleries on the proposed ULEZ etc. The simple truth is it’s easier to go shopping out of town with less traffic, bigger free car parks and undercover.

As for the empty offices, why would you want to work in the centre? Traffic is crap and you have to know where to park etc. It’s also more profitable to convert them to student accommodation.

What’s going to affect my company the most is not local factors but Brexit, we are shifting our work to Europe due to it being a more certain option.

As I asked earlier, anyone actually go speak to the protesters? Friendly bunch with an answer for most questions raised here.

I’m not exactly an eco warrior, I’ve currently 4 cars with the best doing about 20 MPG! Learnt a bit about micro plastics and fast fashion this week so their protest has got through to me.
The M32 was blocked for a lot longer than 30 minutes. It was 7 minutes at a time, then releasing the cars for 2 minutes. The queues were back to the M4.
The ULEZ isn't responsible for the closing shops, but it isn't going to help. I can't remember the last time I went to Cribbs either. I either go out at lunchtime into town or use Amazon.
Our company seems to like city centre offices, but people coming from Wales would rather travel another hour or more to go to another office further down the M4 than get stuck in the Bristol chaos.
I didn't speak to the protesters as I kept out of Bristol this week. I have spoken to their local rep who just repeats the same tired old lines and won't actually listen to anyone.

Sorry, you are correct there. Should have worded it better, the people from my office who travelled in that way at rush hour were delayed by 30 minutes. It’s also possible others were delayed for longer but I’ve no experience of that.

It was also blocked for hours, not sure if it was until 11:30 or 13:30.

I think it’s now recognised that pedestrianisation is a pretty sure way to kill an area stone dead.

Though in fairness this street has underground stations at each end, two major rail stations within 200 yards of it, the best urban motorway in the UK within half a mile and ample off street multistorey car parks.

It is quite comical when one of the best possible solutions was temporary and pulled down before any infrastructure planner realised how important it was...

At least we are rid of the bendy buses that straddle the roundabouts though

Bendy buses were an awful idea, had forgotten all about them. Not sure if we bought them when they were rejected in London or not.

The “temporary” flyover was a great idea, was stuck in traffic this weekend and was thinking it would solve so many of the traffic issues there.

Temple meads no matter how finished will always be too far from town or the centre to be deemed convenient.
The ‘North’ Metrobuses might serve the UWE well but otherwise seems a waste of time. A park and ride at Lyde Green is pointless, there needs to be one serving the M32.
Parking in Bristol is insanely expensive.
Cycling in Bristol is dangerous, the Bristol/Bath cycle path stops the other side of Old Market!

There’s be so much redevelopment of infrastructure, but all causing as many problems as they solve. I have fewer and fewer reasons to go into town and will avoid it at all costs.

Back to the crustys, any update on clearing up mess left? If they’ve left the areas used as found fair play to them.

I think the idea for the Temple Meads area was to create a better impression of Bristol when people get off the train. It still won't stop every tourist asking where the centre is though !

Agreed about the parking. When I first started working in the centre there was a fair bit of free parking available. Now it costs £25 a day to park in the NCP I use.

Last pics I saw, the Bristol Bridge area didn't look too bad. Not sure who tidied what, but it will soon be covered with the usual weekend rubbish anyway. I'm staying away until Monday now !

That's a different matter from climate change. Nobody would argue against reducing pollution by any sort of discard whether it be micro-beads and fibres, or oxides of nitrogen and particulates, But lumping these in with carbon dioxide and its real or imagined effect on climate is so misleading that the cynics among us would say it's deliberate obfuscation. Did they mention con/chem trails or heavy metals in vaccines? That's another favourite of some of them - I have a relation who's a retired nurse who trots out this crap.

Out of curiosity if there are any posters living in the areas these climate warriors visited. Did they leave it all neat and tidy or a mess ?

I've learned about micro plastics and fast fashion from what I've seen on television and read in the media. Plus, it's common sense that if something is cheap and subject to fashion it's going to create a lot of waste. I've read that a third of clothes bought online get returned and most of that gets landfilled. People find it doesn't look like it did online or doesn't fit properly or they buy something in several sizes with the intention of keeping the one that fits and returning the rest.

There was a lot of complaint about the ethics of the £1 Missguided bikini from the wastefulness and pollution when the 85% Polyester garment is thrown away after one Summer to the likelihood of the workers making it not being paid a fair wage.

https://www.retailgazette.co.uk/blog/2019/06/missg...

I've also read that we're eating a considerable amount of micro plastics as it enters the environment and ultimately ends up in our food chain.

https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-...

I buy my clothes in shops, wear them for years until they're done, aim to use environmentally friendly products to wash them in and minimise my use of plastic. I worked for M&S when they started Plan A and used bags for life before most people did.

I don't need people to block roads to make me understand these things and, much as I might agree with their points on these subjects, I'm still going to be angry with them if they stop me going about my business. If it stops people buying from shops it will increase online shopping and the problems that stem from it.

My office is about 200yards away, but I must admit I didn’t bother checking yesterday because it was pissing down, and I had actual work to do. It’s never all that nice around where they were, between a blitzed church and a 90% derelict outpost of the Bank of England.

I’ll be honest, these XR guys have been winding me up a little this week, but the diabolical use of quotation marks in this article has me reaching for the ‘TTAYBR’ thread mad
Maybe it's just me, but I read that then look at this photo from Bristol and think just FRO.

In the 70s the crusties came out in Sheffield in support of the steel strike. They weren't interested in the steel workers, but simply in creating mayhem, smashing property and a general bit of nicking stuff. Got a thorough kicking, didn't come out a second night.
