I'm surprised Khan hasn't been in the press explaining why he's put extra security at churches in the capital given his response to the NZ nutter attack. He normally loves the publicity.
He milks stuff on his Mayor Of London twitter page

(slightly off topic). It was the Tamil Tigers in the 80’s and 90’s who made major use of suicide bombers - eg the killing of Rajiv Gandhi.

I think there had also been warnings about returnees from Syria/ Iraq

“Sri Lanka has blamed local jihadist group National Thowheed Jamath for one of Asia’s deadliest terrorist attacks in years, after confirming seven suicide bombers carried out the Easter Sunday blasts.”

One of thw UKs richest landowners lost three of his young children at one of the hotel blasts.
Biggest shareholder in ASOS.

Another British father knows his wife and son are dead and can not find his daughter.

Saw a video filmed in one of the churches. People still sitting on the benches. Laying in the aisles. Seemed to be mostly women and children.

Strange that still no group has claimed responsibility.

Last rights would be more fitting, IMO.

Sri Lanka still has the death penalty so here’s hoping.

Should do what they do in my country (well, particular island).

Any uppity muslims preaching hate/caliphate or seem to be planning anything....bullet in back of head in a paddy field.

A formula that seems to have worked since the Bali bombings.

Hm. The problem is that over time they pick other groups. And before you know it, you can't say you like V8 engines just because they create more pollution than electric cars.

On my Facebook feed there are so many pro-London protesters that I can't be bothered to disagree on there. I do plan to get a V8, though, before it's outlawed. So they've definitely got their point across.

The Sri Lankan state were brutal when it came to the latter stages of their civil war - the UN estimate that tens of thousands of civilians were killed in the final army offensive.

The Sri Lankan state response to this was to point out that another 10-20 years of a civil war would have killed even more innocent civilians so ending the war at whatever cost was worth it.

Not trying to start a debate on the Sri Lankan civil war however when they do find the bombers and those who helped them I don’t think the state are going to mess around worrying about human rights.

Got to love Islamic extremists rolleyes

One day, the religion of peace will wake up, smell the coffee, realise that their holy book is written to be misinterpreted and re-write vast swathes of it.

Until then, sadly, this backward religion is gaining few friends from across the civilised world.

Christopher Hitchens was spot on when he said Islam is in dire need of a reformation.

Unlikely, 'they' started doing this in response to the dreadful effect the bombings had on the economy.

To start on other groups makes no sense at all in that context.

Think also of time and energy spent following hundreds of suspects around 24hrs a day in the UK.

The intelligence services aren't doing this for fun, they are doing it because these people are a genuine threat to the public.

Some of these targeted individuals will pose an imminent threat.

They are thinking and planning how to commit an act of terrorism, right now.

Here, they might find themselves dead before they get the chance to act. Seems to have worked for the last 14 years.......

That's something that has always confused me. Obviously Bali is part of Indonesia, pretty much the largest (if not the largest) Muslim country on the planet, yet it would appear that the island has enough autonomy (being not majority Muslim) to control the lunatics. A lovely place with lovely people...but terrible traffic issues wink

With the caveat that you're of course lumping 'extremists' in with everyone else of the same religion with all that may imply, I'd agree that an enlightenment and reformation is needed, or at least a de-politicisation. There are quite a few prominent Muslims saying the same thing.

Quite right. Apart from the fact that it is the "extremists" who are doing exactly what Mohamed intended.

Probably a silly question, but what did proto-Muslims believe before Mohamed turned up on the scene?
