Thankfully nothing to do with any bed wetting problems; what thickness rubber sheet is usually used between the chassis and body at the mounting points and is it the same thickness at all the various points?

Someone on here said to fit the tub without packers to see where the gaps are,
then lift the tub and pack the gaps to suit

Thanks both. Thinking about it ,it does make sense to drop the body first to gauge the depth of packers that are needed then lift and fit them. Am I correct in thinking that the chassis and the body should not be in direct contact ?

I’ve just started my strip down and have been taking pictures as I go, on my rear there is 2 packers on the left and 3 on the right hand side so your probably best to get the body on and fill the gaps.

The packers will be anywhere from 4mm thick to 20+ they will be different side to side and back to front.

Put the body on, fill the gaps with packers and bolt down but using plain nuts.

Then go round the car and check that the doors open and close, that the roof fits properly and that the gap at the back of the doors is the same width top to bottom. You may well have to jack the back up quite a way to get this gap correct but you must do it or the body will be stressed and cracks will form. You may also find the packing under the boot will be way different than before as I'm betting you also have replaced the boot cradle because it was rusted to hell.

Couldn't agree more about taking plenty of photos, wish I had. Also lifting and lowering the body several times on your own using a block and tackle at the rear and 2 trolley jacks at the front is a lot harder than it sounds. My advice would be to get as many pairs of eyes to help, especially when lowering the body, to make sure the fit is perfect.
