Does it matter?

If one of our ships was taken somewhere for whatever reason would we then take one back in revenge?

No we wouldn’t and no reasonable country would, they are scumbag terrorist supporting extremist who grow stronger the longer the civilised world tolerates their bullst .
Would any reasonable country go to war over a made up lie? We're not exactly innocents in the whole middle east mess...

Aren't some of the crew Russian? What has Putin got to say about that?
The oil tanker taken by the UK was on its way to his best bud Bashar al-Assad so why would he be upset about a couple of his citizens being detained for a day or two in the cause of upsetting us?

So not unlike our "friends" across the Gulf. It is convenient to portray the Iranians as scumbag nutters. I suspect you will find they are anything but. They are politically astute & militarily strong. If we could find it to deal with them, a lot of problems in the region would disappear. They will get a bomb whatever we try to do to stop it.

Ultimately anyone who REALLY wants the bomb will get it. Pakistan, India, Israel and North Korea already have it. The genie is out of the bottle, they all know HOW to make a bomb so it's just a matter of WHEN they make it. Make no mistake though, you can't hold it back forever.

It's not a build up, just a shift changeover:

Wonder if Mrs May is going to sit there and say well I have called the COBRA stuff but I'm off on Wednesday.
So what we need is a statement that makes it look like we are doing something. It just has to sound good and leave the options open for Boris and whoever his crew is to do what they want to do.
Any ideas Major ?
Tea anyone ?

John Bolton is a dangerous psychopath who would like nothing better than to nuke half the Middle East, although of course, like Trump, he avoided military service himself. The fact that man is anywhere near the decision making table shows how badly the US administration is managed.

Is it fully clarified that the tanker seizure near Gibraltar was legal under international law due to sanctions?

How do you think Corbyn Monoxide would be dealing with the situation if he was at the helm?.

The rest of the world is having its energy security undermined by the UK and the USA at the moment but are apparently
meant to join some sort of league of morons.

Sanctions aside, it looks like Panama cancelled it's registration in May which means it was potentially flagless. That alone gives remit to seize.

My guess is he wouldn't have particularly cared about US pressure and ordered the RM to seize the tanker.

Which in turn wouldn't have p155ed off the Iranians.

I have no problem with p155ing off Iranians but not solely for the benefit of other Countries.
